Is something wrong?

I decided to finally start folding. I got the no nonsense version and configured everything. This is what I got the first time I turned it on after configuration. Is something wrong, or is it working?

I can't see any problem, SCAR.

    p1152_L939_K12M_ext_from638, Run: 143 (Clone 82, Gen 20)

    400 frames, 239 point - it takes ~ 5.7 minutes / frame (Opty 165 @ 1.8 MHz)

So let it run for a couple of minutes, and you will see when the first frame is done.

I'm running a timeless one identical as yours on a P4, 3.2Gig notebook.
400 frames at around 7.5 minutes.

Looks like it came good at the end.

It dosen't look right to me. It's downloading the core and it seems to shutdown before commencing any work. Are you shutting it down?

If it's shutting itself down and trying to restart the work unit it's ceratinly a sign that you have some sort of problem with your PC.

    Are you overclocking at all?

Yeah I'm shutting it down. I guess I should've mentioned that... I shut it downs a few times while I was configuring it.

If I remember that work unit correctly, 1152~, 5 minutes per frame is not bad. What CPU do you have, and how much RAM?

I'm currently processing that unit as well on my XP 2800+ system, No. 2 in my signature. It's processing at 5 min. 15 sec./frame. Your production is about 4:34/frame - nearly 45 seconds faster than the 2800. That would appear to be about right, as your system theoretically should be about 25% faster than mine. Of course, there are other factors involved besides processor frequency. The frames progress I posted for my XP 2800 was with nothing else running on the computer. With ordinary office applications and/or Internet use, I would expect the time/frame to increase by 15 or 20 seconds.

EDIT: Actually that 25% figure is off. Your system is overclocked a little. Your computer might be a little slow, but not a lot. If you are running other programs, to include posting at this thread while the system is folding, it will slow it down a little bit. A better performance measurement would be to check it in the morning after it's had a chance to run all night without interference.

Hey Scar, thank you very much for joining the team. Anyone who keeps up with Folding, whether commanding one computer or a LAN of several machines, is a hero.

I got another question: What is the point of more than a few people folding 1 unit? I mean, they're going to get the same results aren't they? So you'd think it would be more effective to give a different unit to most people.... Unless all the processors are folding the same unit in different ways...

Every "fold" of a protein can be different. The same WU can be done by thousands of people all with different outcomes. Most turn out to be normal. some come back with clues as to why and how a protein mis-folds. That answer your question?
