Here goes, The kids PC has three accounts, one is never used, One is my eldest sons and the other is used by the other two kids. If eldest son goes on his account a message box pops up that says it can't find 'advmon32.exe' He clicks ok and a send message to MS box pops up. If he tries to go online the same 'send to MS' box pops up and IE closes. On the other kids account everything is fine and works ok. Where can I get the missing file and where do I put it?
The PC is running xp pro.

No references to that file found on Google. Is this happening when they try to get on MSN Messenger?

The message 'windows cannot find advmon32.exe' comes up straight after he put his password in. He clicks ok to get rid of the message box. Then another box pops up saying 'windows cannot run advmon32.exe' There is nothing in the task bar untill he clicks ok again, then everything loads. If he opens IE a 'recovered from a serious error, send to MS' box pops up, he clicks don't send and IE imediatlely closes. He says everything else in his account works but freezes every minite. I've done a search on my PC and can't find this file.
    Any ideas?

It also says 'either check the file is there or remove the referance to it from the registry' As the other accounts are ok should I do that? How would I search the registry ?

    Bothered,

Here, I found it in my registry. So based on this, I would not delete it! You may be able to find it on your install disc and manually replace it.
  • TemplarTemplar You first.

Try going into msconfig (Start menu -> Run -> type msconfig -> click on startup tab) and turning it off. This won't delete it from the registry, and if something abnormal happens, you can turn it back on doing the same process.

I'd already looked in startup, no sign of it there.
Cheers mtgoat, exactly what I need. I'll copy it from my PC and paste it into the kids. That should sort it out.
    Thanks everone.

    Bothered,

I got the same problem with my computer - cannot find advmon32.exe. What is advmon32.exe for anywhere? Can you send a copy of the advmon32.exe to me?

    Thanks,

This was a year ago. I can't remember what happened. I think maybe I did as Templar said eventually, go into msconfig and turn it off. It's just something in the registery that's trying to start but isn't there anymore so just turn it off.

I believe it's either spyware/adware or a trojan. Searched on google and alot of the results were HJT logs. When the fixed it, advmon32.exe wasn't on the log.

You are probably right Black Hawk, like I say it was a year ago and can't remember how I got rid of it.
