It is probably some 12 year old that cant figure out how to DDOS, I wouldnt worry about it, but you could contact the FBI if you wanted to., they seem to take these matter pretty seriously because that is verbal assault or something along those lines.

Do you have you address/contact info in your profile or anywhere on the web, or did you share it with anyone, if you did, than I have no other words than "that is the stupidest thing you can do" especially when dealing with total strangers.

Did you ever put any contact info on Myspace, Flickr, Livejournal, Xanga, or any other <s>pedophile database</s> social site?

And did they TELL you what your address is? OR did they just say "I know your address."

It's probably innocuous, but one really never can tell. Regardless, try not to delete any messages you receive from these lowlives. Even if they don't mean what they say, it would be great for them to be separated from civilized society. They've forfeited any rights they have, in my opinion. Vermin. They belong in a zoo.

Concur with Leo; I'd block the users and not worry yourself about it further. They're playing mind games.

It wouldn't hurt to report the incident to the FBI. If they can trace the message from an interstate source, it is Federal jurisdiction. The FBI is swamped - counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence, white collar crime, child pornography, organized crime... but you never know, they might actually be able to devote some time to the threats you've received. Whether or not the threats are real, they legally constitute real threats.

Dirtbags like that should be separated from decent people.

Exactly my thoughts. I think the FBI should have a unit devoted to putting scum like that exactly where it belongs. And who is to say this person is only harrassing her/him, said dirtbag deserves to get locked up.

Unfortunately, the FBI is only one-half to one-third the size they need to be to assiduously investigate all the areas that the US public and congress want them too. It's always a matter of priorities, as specified by the President, Attorney General, and approved by Congress. If it is of interest to you, the official top priorities of the FBI, in order are:

    counter-terrorism
counter-intelligence (foreign espionage, national security and industrial)
    cyber crimes
    political/public corruption (white collar)
    civil rights violations
    organized crime
    white collar
    major thefts/violent crime
    and so forth

Yeh, ive noticed a big crackdown on child pornography, or else the media is just covering it more now, as it seems to be good tv for the news media.

I will respectfully suggest that everyone, while I know you all mean well, take this post with a grain of salt. So far you have all offered sound advice - but remember that there is no verification that this person is who they say they are. This could be someone who wants to have the above named AIM users spammed, for example.

likeyouveneverseen, this is not the place for your problem. If you are seriously worried about getting raped by an "anonymous" AIM user, you need to call the police immediately. Why on earth would you register on a random tech forum, and bring up something so important as a first post? Why did you come to short-media for this? Call the police. There is nothing anyone here can do to help you.

Prime the exact same thoughts crossed my mind. I found it very unusual to have someone post something personal like that on a tech site. I also get the feeling it was written by a guy. A rather juvenile one at that!

    first of all im 22
    and yes im a guy
    why does that matter??
    look..
i searched for awnsers to my problum..
and i read a post on here about someone getting harassed on aim..
there seemed to be careing people helping this person..
even to the point of asking for the AIM user name..
as to get the info themselfs for the person in need..
i thought maybe someone would do the same for me..
since this even goes way past harrasment..
you really think i should call the fbi??
    im kind of anti government..
but right now im leaning twords doing that..
so by your standard just cuz we cant prove the identity of anyone over the net we shouldent help anyone??
    thats sad....

No you're not getting it - the point is, what exactly do you want from this community? What kind of "help" do you think you'll get here? You need to call the local police. Being Anti-Government doesn't really help much when you need the government to protect you, but then again that's the way it goes. I mean, this is a legal problem you are facing, but you are looking for help on a technical forum full of complete strangers. We are a very caring helpful community, but there's nothing we can do for you. You need help from law enforcement, not a bunch of computer hobbyists.

Even if this is true, they are probably just hollow threats. I mean I could just browse a forum, pick out an AIM name at random and send them a message saying I'm going to "rape them". I have no idea who that person is or where they live. Even if they did know who you are and where you live, do you really think they'd come all the way to you? It's kinda like the "omg I r being hacked" argument. If someone wanted to do something they'd pick a better target (closer, more appropriate, etc).
