cmos jumper mod
I have some reset and power switches from older cases. Which one would be the one to mod by adding a spliced line or whatever so that you could put it on the three pin cmos jumper and with the press or hold down of a button on the front of case clear the cmos?
I was thinking of using an old hdd led 3 pin connector and attaching it to a reset/power button and doing whatever line splice to add the third connection but need details. Even use the old lock mechanism jumpers so it would be harder to accidentally clear cmos while computer is in use since you need a key or just screwdriver to turn the lock.
thanx in advance.

I've thought about doing something like this, only the button would be connected directly to the mobo connectors, thus inside the case and away from mishap.
NC = Normally Closed
I'd have to think about how I'd wire it up tho. Have to run back to school to take my Astronomy class in a few minutes... I should be able to come up with something then (I don't need to pay attention anyhow, so...). I'll post anything I come up with when I get back (~6:00pm Pacific). Good idea tho... don't know why I didn't think of this before...
For CMOS clear only:
You need the NO side (The 2 contacts will only connect when the button is pressed). attach the old hdd header to the switch. doesn't matter which wire to which pin. then you can just plug the header into the CMOS header between the center and one of the out side pins. The hdd header will only fit between the center and an out side pin. Press the button and see if you CMOS resets. if not rotate the hdd to the other outside pin.
For Computer reset and CMOS:
Everything is the same as above only splice in the hdd header to the rest switch already there. should only have 2 wires.
send me an e-mail if you don't understand
I understand that the Power switch button would be a NO switch right? Cause it's open til you connect them (by pushing on the button) to power on the psu/board - like taking a flathead screwdriver and touching the two pins when you have the board outside the case for testing. The cmos is three pins. Normal operation has two pins connected. Clear is to move the jumper over to the other side - The NO side. This is the side you want me to put the hdd led part on?
I think I got you confused cause I mentioned the hdd led because some of them have a 3 pin header with only two wires to accomodate different boards. I was thinking along the lines that I needed the 3 pin hdd header because two pins need to be connected to boot up normally and I would switch to the other side to clear cmos. What I understand you saying is that I just need to attach a power button switch to the clear cmos side (NO side) and I wouldn't have to have the NC side closed to boot up?
