Site being unresponsive/slow?

Yeh, I am trying to figure out if it is my internet connection that is timing out, or if the site is just being slow. When I am on here going from one page to another, it sometimes times out, or loads extremely slow. I think it may be my cable modem fizzling out though. Cause I've had to reboot it multiple times this week. But then again, smaller pages such as google, and others seem to have no problem loading.

Site isn't slow. It could be something between Michigan and you. Google isn't a very good site to test connections on because it has servers all over the place and isn't much affected by parts of the grid getting screwed up. 99% of the time, any slowness someone feels in the site can be attributed to a network somewhere. Now if it goes down... that's sometimes Brian flubbing a PHP install :D

Hmm. I am going to place the blame on my cable modem, after 4 years of use, I think it may have ran its course.

    Two suggestions:

    1. Call your ISP and see if there have been any networking protocol changes lately. Last week my Internet speeds at home went to heck for no apparent reason. We called our ISP and we had a fix in just a few minutes. The provider (DSL) had changed some kind of protocol setting for the entire subscriber base. We had to adjust the MTU setting in our wireless router and then boom, all was good again.

    2. Update the firmware for your modem.

I was fine earlier, but just now I am having trouble getting into individual threads. The main forum page loads just fine.

It sometimes hangs while loading pagead2.googlesyndication...

OK, I spoke too soon in my previous post.

YES, I've been having page hangs today with S-M - pretty bad ones. I also saw that "google..." blurb. I'm on my company's network, so there's not modem or router to blame.

Ohio - Oklahoma - Alaska: we can't all be on the same trunk/circuit.

It's prof's signature... for some reason, it keeps showing up even though I removed it from the forum-wide template

Odd. I thought it may have been my sig, since every page stalled right when it hit my first post in the thread and I could view new threads with no problem.

I edited my sig to remove the FAH parts of the sig (it took me several minutes to even get into my usercp to do that), but it didn't help. I finally took it down to a single line of text, but that didn't help. It's gone now altogether.

As usual, I blame myself. :(

Haha, nah, it's something screwy with the boards; that shouldn't have happened. It was a problem with all F@H sigs, not just yours - yours was the just the only one with that weird issue where I couldn't get rid on it.

If anything, the boards should be EXTRA zippy for the next few hours until the F@H sigs are stable again. As prof alluded to in another thread, it seems that Stanford has moved its servers. The sigs are hanging because they can't find the servers until DNS propogates again. Really, it's my fault for not including proper error-handling for this occurance.
