Does this start at the exact same time every day? What is the prognosis for a permanent fix?

I though you guy's got kidnapped by aliens!
What, LOL! No, they are aliens. That should explain a LOT.

Brian, I seem to remember a few threads about two or three years ago when the staff exhorted a then co-owner to "Step away from the keyboard."

Just razzing you. You are doing a good job.

Does anyone have a time estimate on when this issue will be fixed or is it a complicated PITA to sort out?

Want me or someone else in a timezone where we're likely to minimise the downtime to ssh in and restart it each morning in the meantime?

No, I'd rather actually fix the problem than use the band-aid approach :D

Band-aid's work till you fix it :p
(I've got a problem with BIND at the moment actually, it doesn't seem to work after boot until it's manually restarted even though it's running. Very odd).
