Help! Can't uninstall Zone Alarm Security Suite Trial

I'm a non-technical PC user & I installed the trial version of ZA Internet Security Suite v6.5. The program hasn't worked well for me though & i want to uninstall it. But I can't! I went via All Programs > ZoneLabs > Uninstall like the documentation tells you to but I got the error message " Could not load the library C:\DOCUME~1\XP\LOCALS~1\TEMP\vsutil.dll (1s64BIT)". Same message via Control Panel. I even tried reinstalling it from the original download & got the same problem.

I may have made a mistake in installing Avast before uninstalling ZA, but I'd shut ZA down first.

What can I do? I want to install Norton but I don't want to cause any problems with that program since it says ZA Security Suite is incompatible.

My tech confidence is pretty limited...

    You need to start your computer in Safe Mode. To do that, restart, and when the text starts showing on the black screen (before Windows boots) start tapping F8. The computer will start Windows in Safe Mode, which only allows a minimal set of programs and applications to run. At this point, go into Add & Remove Programs, and remove what you need to.
