Mysterious Message Box Halts Windows XP Boot Sequence

I'm plaqued by a mystery message box that appears after the
boot screen but before the welcome screen. It stops the boot process and requires
me to press an okay button to continue. If I don't press the okay button, the boot process will recommence after about a 5 minute wait. The computer is virus free and performs perfectly
except for this odd, annoying, unreadable message. Here is a list of things I've tried with
no success:
- Turned off all startup programs and services.
- Started in safe mode.
- Used various registry repair software.
- Used Windows XP system restore.
- Used Windows XP file checker, but, found no corrupt or missing protected files.
- Ran chkdsk/r.

I tried starting in dianostic mode and by golly the box dissapeared! However,
when I reboot in normal mode, the mystery box returns. And, here is a interesting
bit of info... usually the box displays jibberish, unreadable rectangles and symbols
and these change on every other boot. Once, and only once, did the box dislay something
that makes sense: c:\windows\system 32\ ahui.exe .This abberation began about three weeks ago when I uninstalled Symantec's PC Anywhere.
Of course, Symantec reports no such issues! I'm totally baffeled... if only I could
decipher the jibberish. Any ideas out there?

Download and run "SymClean". It's a Symantec rubbish remover made by Symantec to remove Symantec rubbish left behind after uninstalling Symantec software. (Not to be confused with difficulties with symantics!)

Seriously, download SymClean and give it a try. I don't know if it's a solution to your problem, but it's worth a go.

    Thanks Leonardo!

I'll give Symclean a try and post back with my results. Again, thanks for the quick tip!

Symclean was a nice try, but, no cigar! Symclean found no leftover Symantec files. Any more ideas to help me slay the mystery box demon?
