so like...

Im trying to fix one of my apartment managers computers, but... she doesnt have a genuine copy of windows XP and when i start the PC it keeps telling me this... so.. thats not the problem

the problem is that the stupid computer wont let itself get networked with another computer, like... it wont share an internet connection like i want it too, i set up the router just fine, just the way you would normally.. but.. on this same stupid computer it always says "little or no connectivity" and its so damn annoying... it says the reason is because no ip was assigned or something of the sort, but wtf... im so confused..

im sorry.. networking and me have never been a big thing.. any tips/ideas?

i was maybe thinking that windows wouldnt let itself connect to the network because it isnt a genuine copy... but thats just a theory and most likely isnt true.

OK, tell us a little about the network to be integrated:

    How many computers?
Network interface - router, Ethernet, wireless?
    Operating systems

And are you running a software firewall? I've seen some of those not configured correctly that yield the same symptoms....

The problem doesn't have anything to do with Windows Genuine Advantage. That's only the nag screens and it prevents you from downloading everything but critical updates from the MS site. It wouldn't prevent networking or slow down a network.

You are not the only one to experience this problem, as evidenced by this forum:

As the question was already asked, ensure that the router is set for DHCP.

Do me a favor...hit START>RUN...then type CMD and press ENTER. Then type IPCONFIG /ALL
If you have no results, or some info is missing, then type IPCONFIG /RELEASE, then IPCONFIG /RENEW.
If it is still not updating the IP address, then statically assign an IP based off of the router's credentials. If the router offers a DNS relay option, then your default gateways and DNS servers should be the router's internal ip address. Otherwise, use the external DNS IP addresses.

Assign an ip that does not conflict within your range and make sure that your subnet is within the given of the router. Also, make sure that the router supports static assignments of IP addresses.

Let us know if you can get on the internet...
