Windows Vista RC2 Released

32 and 64 bit clients found: Here.

This build is hot on the heels of the first post-RC1 build, 5728. Bypassing expectations that there would be one more build between RC2 and 5278, Microsoft has delivered to us what might be the last pre-RTM build. Have at it. :)

So ...does it seem worth the upgrade at release time or should we wait?

I think the OS is pretty close. All the problems I am having are with 3rd party support. ( Drivers) I am using the Nvidia "beta" 96.33 's They suck. All kinds of stuttering in games. I have only found one AV program that works "Trend Micro" I hope RC2 will address some of the other problems I have been having. With RC1 "Windows" could not see the internet. As in no updates, IE could see it just fine. I just started the RC2 upgrade and it told me I have no internet connection . ( I do )

And this one really burns me.
In the pre-beta release "Media-Center" saw all the .VOB files in my movie library and would play them. RC1 reports the folders as empty. ( They play just fine in WMP but aren't there in MC. I read online somewhere that this is a DRM thing imposed by "Hollywood"
This may be the deal breaker for me.

I otherwise like it a lot.

Are you using x32 or x64, Scott? x64 is months and months behind x32 in polish.

I am using the 32bit.
The rest of the system is
NF7 ( no S )
Mobile Barton @ 2400Mhz Water cooled
1 gig Corsair ram
6800Gt ( AGP )

The RC2 upgrade is just finishing up
We'll see how it did without "being online"

Well the upgrade to RC2 seems to have gone smoothly. Everything is still there.
Windows update works again
Activation went through
Still no .VOB files in my Media library ( Via Media Center ) That Sucks
I had to re-install the Nvidia drivers

I will play with it some more later and report back

So the x32 will likely perform better? or in what areas is it more "polished" would you say?

It performs much, much better. I'm not a programmer, so I really can't tell you why, but multimedia and video game performance are especially better on x32.

Ive downloaded the RC2 version via the akamai donwload manager only to receive this error at the end of the process:
Downloads complete. However, download integrity is questionable. (MD5 mismatch). I am re-downloading at the moment but the MD5 sum is the same, right? How do I get around this

how many days is this? is it a 15 day trial or what?

Does anyone know why RC2 appears to have been deleted by Microsoft.

All the links which have been available over last two days have been inoperative and now those same links take you to download pages for RC1.

Seems like RC2 has been withdrawn - does anyone know - or are there any new links ??

I must say the hardware support in RC2 is vastly improved. Out of the box, RC1 could not see my RAID array, but RC2 does. The only bug I noticed is the HD size reported is being doubled, as if the array were striped, not mirrored.

Every time I try Thrax's link, it kicks me to here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/

I couldn't find anything on RC2 on the Vista page. Does anyone have another link, or did they take it down or something?

Second time I try Vista since one of the first leaked versions. Looks really nice but it's pretty sluggish on my rig. Everything worked "out of the box". Hate all the security dialogs but I guess Johnny McNooby needs them. If this is anything like the end product, I'll be seriously disappointed.

Ditto. In fact I don't even see the 5728 build I have now. Just RC1 5600. It did give me a new CD key though.
