XP Professional

edited October 2006 in Science & Tech
I have recently installed XP Professional.

On startup I get the message:

"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional with Front Page"

It usually requires repeated cancellation before allowing me to continue.

The problem is - I do not have Office XP Professional on my machine!

Any help will be welcomed as I am losing what little hair I have.

What type of CD did you install from? Was it a legitimate Microsoft CD or a restore CD that came with your computer? Office XP residue had to have been installed on your hard drive by some source.

It was a legitimate Microsoft CD - Academic version.

The machine was upgraded from Windows 98SE and this peculiarity did not come to light until the final reboot after the upgrade.

I have seen this problem occur any time I try to launch Microsoft Office from a non-admin account on my parents' PC. The solution, I think, is to temporarily grant admin rights, load Office until it finishes that piece of the install procedure, then remove the admin rights.

Hopefully Microsoft improves the functionality of their own software under non-admin accounts in the future.

Thanks, but I'm not trying to launch Office. I don't even have Office XP.
