I had a meeting this morning with my elementary computer lab teachers. They have new machines, and haven't updted the software they use since that days on Win98. This means the most intensive work these machines get is a single instance of powerpoint. For a lab of 2Ghz/512 machines, this means there isn't much memory usage.
I took one lab and made a new Group Policy to push out a new client.cfg with bigWU's enabled. I'll see how it goes today with the different apps they use. Lucky for me, stull like a Win98-edition copy of Number Crunchers doesn't use hardly any memory, leaving a lot open for FAH...
So what kind of benefit could I see by turning 60 lab machines on to bigWU's?
(unfortunately, I can't guarantee what will be run on every other machine in my domain, so I can only safely roll out bigWU's to 2 labs that are limited to a set of small apps)
There are:
19 x Dual1.8Ghz G5 PPCs
19 x Dual2.0GHz G5 PPCs
all folding on both CPUs,
and a lowly 800Mhz G4
I make that 77 "cores".
Unfortunately I dont have remote access to them all, so most do not fold fulltime (say 12-18 hours out of 24)
you should install them to run at startup and the CPU cores at the % you want so you never have to check up on them, aslong as the GMac is running folding should run
Damn... I wish I could get my work to finally approve the F@H on all the campus PC's I am working on getting all the cad lab system setup at running cores at 20% as the machines use the ram and CPU's during the day... I have all the files in the right place just need the go to turn them on... I will keep you updated could equal 50 - 200 Xeon 3.6Ghx HT CPU's
But I don't think they will allow me access to all of them

Good luck man!! My how-to works great, see if they'll go for the GPO...
Also, you might want to run the batch file manually for a few key people, just to show them how unobtrusive the install/service is...

nice! added.
cool! added!
Only a few can now fold fulltime though, alas!
how many did you switch over to 2 instances of FAH?
rawk! I'll add the core, let us kow when you fire the other one up!

WOOOOOOOT
you'll see a nice bump from that one! :celebrate
That makes 101 cores in about 9 days. Mission Accomplished!
Now let's see what we got for the extra credit...
Congrats and good job all!
looks like they're coming online! (check out the daily production!)

no school yesterday or today...so (almost) no folding. we'll start seeing the 100+ new cores start to kick in next week...
On the bright side, TSC isn't a concern any more...
nice! added.
Datsun 1600
nice! looks like we're getting a few more in there just before the finish!
a couple more just under the wire!
