Program to force "standby" mode on monitors

In order to save energy, however minute it might be...I was looking for some kind of app that would trigger a "standby" signal to my monitors instead of waiting till they go into standby at their own preset time. There is a Yahoo Widget that does it but I was just hoping for something I can put in my taskbar or something.

Thanks a bunch.

Can't answer your question, but why don't you just turn the monitor off? That's what I do with my home computers.

I use this to do exactly what you're looking for. It's a really handy app and it's freeware.

But, doesn't power options allow you to turn it off in as little as one minute?

You dont always want it to turn off immediatly, but sometimes you do, like when you just finished using the computer and you want to go to bed, but (since it's in the same room as you) the monitors are far too bight to wait 15 minutes to turn off on their own.

So he wants to move the mouse and click rather than move his hand to the off button?
    Why?

I use it so I can turn off the monitors from bed using my remote. I also use two monitors, and hitting one button is easier than hitting two. Not to mention it's easier to turn them on by simply moving the mouse/hitting a button on the remote.

yeah, its for when I'm far away from the monitors....save myself a fraction of a second here and a fraction there, save a nickel of electricity here and there  Thanks for the link to that Poweroff app, that might do it.
