How do you tell XP Home from Pro at bootup?

Is there any way of knowing whether the PC is running XP Home or Pro before it even boots to the welcome screen?

The splash screen shows Professional or Home Edition under the XP logo.

//EDIT: Although that might not show up anymore after installing the SPs. I hardly pay attention to the boot screen. Maybe I'm wrong.

 Maybe I'm missing something, but I have just re-booted 3 of my machines that I know has got XP Pro on them and there is no mention of the word professional.
By splash screen, I'm assuming you mean the black background with the windows logo and name on it, that comes up before it changes to the blue welcome screen?

EDIT: I see you beat me to it :)

Yeah, proofed it out myself. They all show just Windows XP once you install a service pack.

The bar that scrolls across the screen have different colours, I think. Blue for Pro and Green for Home?

Good God there's a guy ^^who's stared at way too many monitors booting up.....but....I think he's right. I just can't remember which color is which.

If you really have to know without booting all the way up, if you hit F8 I think that screen tells you.

Blue is pro, green is home. Trogan is right.

I checked a PC that had an OEM XP Home, version 2002 and the scroll bar was also blue. However the F8 function worked brilliantly. Thanks mtrox!

Somebody forget that you can right click on My Computer and choose properties? Once System Properties shows up, it'll tell you what version you have on the general tab.

There's no "My Computer" icon when the PC is booting. ;)

SP1 didn't make the change, it was SP2 that removed the words Home or Pro from the boot screen.

Start>Run = winver (press enter or 'OK')

opps, but I guess that's when you're already booted up.
