EQuito had this to say Something I forgot to mentioned which is very weird: this Thorton changed color. It was a typical green and now is brownish, looks like the green faded out due to heat I guess...
Just to clarify, I was calling myself a moron for thinking that ok?

Here is something new and interesting even if slightly off topic.
I was looking at the Barton's at Fry's earlier and noticed that the 2500's were the new packageing and the 2600's were the old style. I then compared the batch numbers to what NE has listed and found the same to be true if that is indeed what they have. So if anyone wants to get an unlocked Barton it looks like the 2600's are still good. They also only want $1.00 more at Fry's then NE. Atleast that way you can be certain when you buy if lucky enough to be close enough to a Fry's store. I'm dead broke but may still get one since all the chips will eventually be locked by the looks of it.
Now I'm really freaking out!
I sold the KV7 to Omega so I put the Thorton on it to test it before shipping, that's the screenie you see above so I ship the board, put the Thorton on my NF7-S and I'm totally locked out of CPU settings.
It won't even let me change FSB nor do I have access to default speeds, WTF?
Any ideas?

Oh Oh!!!:banghead:
Maybe he needs the CPU too! he said he was looking for some and they didn't need to be overclockable.
I wouldn't sell this POS to my worst enemy!
I can only boot @1500 now "cpu unworkable yada yada" :banghead:
I don't understand...

Oh sheetz! Any chance to undo the mod and see if it at least goes back to stock? You don't have any mods done to your NF7 that may be interfering with the chip mod?
I can change multis and FSB in bios or boot @ max default speed of 1800+ (133x13+) but when I get to the desktop and open WCPUID or CPU-Z the FSB is the same as in bios but the multi is always 15...
The only way those Thornton might be a good deal is for someone with an old mobo that doesn't support a higher pci divisor than 4 who want to upgrade their proc, like a KT266A mobo. A 15 multi is just about right for the KT266A boards.
The AT7 acts just like the boards did when the first thoroughbred "A" came out. I remember when the 2400+ came out and i ran it on the KX7, i could change all multis and whatnot, but it wouldn't change anything in reality, just like your case.
You either need to get the stripper (no phun) or find out which pins to connect. If that baby does close to 2.5...man!
Which bios on the NF7? Remember, support for thorton wasn't available until Bios 17 or 18 i think. So if you run your special bios, that might be the problem. Just a thought and well worth a try.
Thanks for the reply Mac
I don't remember that problem you talk about but sure sounds like what's happening to me on the AT7-MAX.
btw: I was and I'm using bios v2.2 on the NF7 and the only mod is the newer SATA bios.
Anyway, some good news: the Thorton is working on the NF7 again, why? I don't know.
Obviously, I cannot change multis and for some unknown reason I cannot boot at anything above 166MHz but the $80 investment paid off after all.

I just checked eWiz and they show it brown so it must've been brown from the start...
What a moron uh?
I have never seen a chip changed color. Halfbreed? Or Thoroughbreed?

>edit....i see it was mentioned on page 1
well just a reminder get ur thortons today

Well at least it looks like you have healthy Barton if nothing else. This looks a lot better than whaen I last heard from you!
FatCat
That's how EQuito got into this mess! :O
FatCat,
Be careful, most Thorton's newer that week 38 are locked same as Bartons.
so i would want a week 37 or older if i read correctly...
Week 37 or less. I would say don't even mess with it now.
