Can Anyone CONFIRM Thortons at Newegg?

Leo,
The Thorton is a "crippled" Barton. So with some bridge work you can have a Barton and even a 333fsb, 512kb L-2 cache dualie chip for cheap.
Check out Mac's thread "Got me a Thorton".
Thanks for the info; I forgot about the OPN code even though I read the post where Thrax, er, thracked down the difference.
Anybody know of where to get a Thorton online? I'm looking for one within about a month to two months. Maybe I should put that in Help Me Find a Deal......

Maybe I should put that in Help Me Find a Deal... at any rate, buying one I can see locally like Mac suggested is a no-go, since there's about a $50 price difference between buying local and buying online. :banghead:

One is marketed as a Tbred XP 2100+ and the other is marketed as a Tbred XP 2000+. The 2000+ does an easy 2 gig on TERRIBLE aircooling (over 60c on 1.6 volts) and i am sure it does 2.5 with excellent aircooling/watercooling and as you can see, i have modded it back to full 512kb cache. $50 or so.
I still am. Newegg really didn't have any chips labeled "Thorton" in stock at the time of my orignal post.
I am ze monster! I still found the first place that started selling Thortons specifically labeled Thortons (eWiz). Nyaaah!
Then again, I'm not buying a Thorton anymore anyway, so it's a moot point!
AMD ATHLON XP 2400+ "Thorton" 266 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM
Warning!: those chips are locked and you can't mod the chache.
Well damn those AMD %#*&+#@* anyway!!! :shakehead
All you need is patience and a powerful lighted desk-mounted magnifying glass which I had but I was afraid to use. :o
Thank's for the good news!
Other than needing good light and magnification, was it fairly easy to do? Did you just scrape it with a Exacto knive or use something easier? Would the pin trick work? Are they multi locked on NF2's?
AFAIK, there's no way around it so far, waiting for somebody to find a solution.
Anyway, I used the very edge (corner) of a razor blade to scrape it and it didn't take much effort to uncover the contacts so be gentle. The rest is the usual, superglue and conductive paint.
Something I forgot to mentioned which is very weird: this Thorton changed color. It was a typical green and now is brownish, looks like the green faded out due to heat I guess...
What stepping did you get? Full code?

You mean that the new packaging always have been green before? No clue at all but to be honest,i have seen more browns than greens the past 6 months on all XP and Bartons. Seen any green Thorton yet? Could....no. Just a thought. Could Brown mean "refurbished" as in chosen to be the lower line and the worst quality of the wafers? I see that you have a VERY high batchnumber , chip 1578 on the wafer. That would generally be the very end of the wafer, but im not sure how many chips they can produce from 1 wafer. Higher number generally means lower oc :/. Any stepping with a low number under 50 or so are gold.
Unless I'm going crazy or being totally influenced by all the pictures and reports, this chip was as green as the pic larry posted above...
btw: thanks for the info on the batch #, nice to hear my chip officially sucks... :banghead:
