Windows Vista?

Now that Windows Vista is finally going to be released soon, how many will really upgrade to it? I have a 64bit CPU and want to take advantage of it but I keep reading how Vista performs worse than Windows XP. Will it keep with such lousy performance or after release will it pick up pace and finally be better than the previous OS? Just wondering if I should waste the $400 to get Vista Ultimate or not.
