These are legitimate products, however, they're not the sort normally
"bundled" w/ a new system by a co. such as Dell, Gateway, etc. Normally,
you would get a LE (limited edition) or freeware edition of some products but
usually not the professional or full versions (unless you opted for them in
    the purchase of your computer).

    The "NTI.Ripper.... --> Incl. Keymaker <-- " reference is most likely a
pirated program that includes a key generator to generate a key to unlock or
register the product during or after installation. This is not something
you'd get w/ the product when you purchase it. A key generator is uniquely
    of the "pirated software realm".

The problem w/ having pirated software installed on your system by your
manufacturer/vendor, is that (in addition to placing you in a vulnerable
position because it is illegal) later, when your system fails (and it will -
they all do at some point), you won't have the installation CDs and product
key codes to re-install software you may have come to rely upon. You may
find yourself spending a lot of $ to replace the software.

A reputable manufacturer/vendor will include the original installation CDs for
all of your installed software w/ your purchase of a computer. That includes
your operating system CD along w/ its product key code and certificate of
authenticity. Or, they'll include a "restore" CD or CDs that restore(s) the
system back to the state it was in when you originally purchased it.

Check on your computer case and look for an authentic Windows XP sticker
that includes the product key code. (You should have this sticker regardless
of whether or not the mfgr. gave you the OS CD. You usually won't get the
OS CD anymore if the mfgr. provides "restore" CDs instead.) If the sticker is
not there then it may still be on the packaging that the original Windows XP
CD came in. If you can't find it (the sticker), go back to the vendor. They
owe you at least a legitimate operating system.

You can go here to find out if your operating system installation/product key
    is legitimate:

    Case-In-Point:
Don't feel like the lone ranger. I've seen this happen to people a lot over
the years. I once had a client insist I replace an app. that "came w/" her
computer when I repaired her system. The problem was, she never
purchased the software. The manufacturer/vendor who built the system for
her had pirated the app (Word Perfect) onto her computer. I had to be
the "bad guy" and tell her she needed to purchase the product 1st. So, in
addition to the cost of computer repair, she also had to lay out $ to pay for
software that she'd become dependent upon but didn't own. BTW, she was
an attorney - So, it can happen to anybody!

I'll bet you a nickel those apps on your E drive that you listed didn't come directly from Acer manufacturer. Particularly the one w/ a key generator. Not as a new system, anywho.

To Uninstall Apps you don't intend to use:
First, look in the START MENU for an app you want to uninstall. If there is a program group for the app, then it is installed. Look in the app's program group for an uninstall icon. Use this uninstall icon to uninstall the app. If it has no uninstall icon or If there is no START MENU program group for the app, check ADD-REMOVE programs and see if it's listed there. If it is there, choose uninstall to remove it. If it isn't in the START MENU or in ADD-REMOVE programs, then the app is not installed.

I suspect the programs you found on the E drive are installation files for these apps rather than the program files that are created once a program is installed. If you want to back up these files, you can burn them to a CD-R/RW, or DVD+/-R or RW disc.

If you're using a CD-R or RW disc to backup to, you can use windows CD-Burning utility.
    http://www.landaenterprises.com/support/windows/burn_cd_win_xp.asp

If you want to use a DVD+/- R or RW disc, then you must use third party software to burn files to the DVD.

Incredible! Oh yes, it is believable that some dirtbag would illegally bundle pirated software and sell it as if it were value added to an unsuspecting customer, but Word Perfect? You've got to be kidding. I use Corel Word Perfect Suite every day at work. Many of us call it "Word Crappy." What would possess someone to want to pirate that, even for someone else? Open Office is free. Why not just bundle that for the customer? I don't understand the logic in this case.

I've had customers request all sorts of stuff that I wouldn't let near my own computer, including things like RealPlayer, etc. :eek2:

The customer may have been someone who has used WordPerfect for years, is used to it, doesn't know better, and insisted that it be on their new custom-built computer. Or, maybe they were high on drugs or something. :o

It means someone has placed those installation files onto your E drive for installation of their respective apps at a later time.

I believe when you are saying "activated" that you mean "installed". Some programs that have been "installed" need to be "activated" in order for them to function. Most programs do not require activation, however. In any case, "installation" preceeds "activation".

The installation files for a given program can be removed from your hard drive. (In most cases, however, the installation files are on external media like a CD-ROM disc. The installation files are used to actually install the program to your hard drive - usually the Program Files - directory. They are no longer needed once the program has been installed. So, like you would remove an installation disc from your CD-ROM drive after you've installed a new app, you can remove the installation files for the new app you just installed off of your hard drive as well if that's where you installed it from.

As for Word Perfect, it's very commonly used in the legal profession - for many years it has been the Word Processor of choice in that profession. There are a no. of things driving this, but one is the templates. The legal profession is fraught w/ forms and they need to be compatible between the various arms of the profession. The templates for these forms for years have been taken from Word Perfect, hence the "tradition" of WP users in the legal industry.

Not a "guy", my friend. I'm a gal....

Don't worry about being a late starter. Many people far into retirement even are discovering and mastering the world of computers. You'd be surprised. Regardless of your age, we all started at the same place - the beginning. This is not genetic knowledge by any stretch. How quickly you learn will depend upon, like anything else, how much effort you put into it and how naturally it comes to you.

As for the program installation files that you found on your E drive...No, I don't believe they'll be on your Acer CDs. I really believe those are pirated programs downloaded from the 'net by (odviously) someone other than yourself.

penny why not copy the programs to a disk and delete the ones you try and don't use presently -but in the future if required you have em saved.
