Real Player wants to connect to the web

After my recent software overhaul in my main computer, I decided to be more strict about what programs do and do not get internet access. Among my media players is the free version of Real Player.
After I installed it, it kept wanting to connect to the internet, so I told my Sygate firewall not to let it through.
But I always get messages with a sound that pop up in the lower right corner of the screen, saying that Real Player was blocked from accessing the internet.
I don't need to know every time, and don't want to be bothered with the constant notifications.
The exact application that wants to connect is realplay.exe .
How can I make the notifications stop? I checked the box saying not to notify me anymore, but it still does it.
Why would Real Player want to connect anyhow?

Have you turned off the message centre?
Current free version is up to No 10 is yours?
Install Real Player Alternative.
Win/win.
OK have put the whip away
As for a RealPlayer alternative, I hadn't heard of it. Gonna poke around and see if I can find it. Once again, I always learn something here. I love his site! Beats the you-know-what outta Experts-Exchange (which I used for years b4 finding Short-Media).
No offense, Tim.
Real Player does offer subscription services (including Rhapsody). Don't know for sure if the software changes for Real Player. I know it doesn't for Rhapsody.
The Real Player Alternative is freeware, too. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm
