iPod users warned on Vista

You may wish to think twice if you are a devoted user of Apple's iPod and are considering upgrading your computer to Microsoft's Vista Operating System. Among the various compatibility issues that may crop up are an inability to play music or video purchased from the iTunes Store, problems synchronizing address book contact and calendar functions, and slowed runtime. If that is not enough to make you wary, there is a chance that plugging an iPod into a computer running Vista may corrupt the device.

Apple offers this advice to those contemplating a move to Vista.

Update: The vaunted Register has now caught up to the news we brought you over the weekend concerning potential Vista/iPod conflicts. It appears that Apple has now released a repair tool for users encountering permissions problems with what they refer to as "Vista 1.0".

It's a good thing we waited 5 years for Vista.

And another 5 years might not hurt!

Why not blame Apple? It sounds like the compatibility issues lie at least as much with them as they do with Microsoft. Couldn't they have had their iTunes software ready to go by now? Vista has been in use for over a month in the corporate world. How hard could it be to have an upgrade in place once the OS was released to the general public?

This is an excellent argument prof. I just threw the shot at Microsoft in there for fun.
    :)

In my opinion Jobs is in bed with Gates up to a certain point and you're correct on this one. If anyone is really to blame it is likely Apple.

I'm sure both are to blame to some extent. I don't think Vista's really ready, and I don't think third parties were scrambling to be compatible with Vista, perhaps taking more of a wait and see approach.

I'd go along with that analysis, with the added comment that no OS is "really ready" until the first service pack is out.

Yeah, but you're a computer genius. What about poor Joe Sixpack who hasn't got a clue? :p
