ok, i just got a laptop today, and it has ME on it, so i hook up my cable modem to it via USB i turn on the laptop and try installing the drivers, but the pc JUST WONT FIND THEM!!!

i have the drivers CD but the cd just says to go to add new hardware wizard etc, i did that and when it says to specify a location i told it drive D: cause thats my CD-Rom drive, and it wont find them! i can see the drivers when explore the CD, but when i double click them nothing happens exept notepad opens up, i even copied the drivers so to a folder on my HD and told it to look for them there, and still no results.... can anyone help me out??

i usually dont have this problem cause i usually use an ethernet port, but this comp doesnt have one....

IF YOU HELP ME I WILL GIVE YOU A COOKIE!!!

Jengo, can you give us details on what USB cable modem it is? Specifically the manufacturer, model and any other information that may be of help.

Does the driver CD have a setup program on it? I've seen some cases where the drivers have to be installed before the device is plugged in.

the program on there just tells me to use the "add new hardware" wizard, which a already tried but wouldnt find the drivers on the CD

This wouldn't happen to be Road Runner Cable is it? I had similar Issues with clients who I built PC's for in which as I was setting up their Modem for USB it would not find the damned Drivers.

    However, they used Toshiba Modems.

The best method I fixed this with was to add in a Network Card and use a J45 connection instead of USB. That way you don't need drivers. Sorry Ic an't remember what to do to fix this, it was a year ago that this last occured to me.
