cant install xp on upgraded system. Help!
Hello all and I hope you are having a better week then I.:sad2:
I have been trying to install xp onto:
Motherboard: m2n32-sli deluxe bios 1001
Memory: corsair 2 gbyte ddr2 800 twin2x
CPU: amd athlon 64 x2 5200+ AM2 1mb x2 L2
Video: 2 Asus 7600GT pci-e vd 256mb
Hard drive: wd 120g ide, Maxtor 500g sata3 6h500f0
CD: Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-107d, toshiba dvd-rom sd-m1212
power: titanium ultra x-2 550w ult31851
Sata/ide mini converter for the wd 120g
My old system was giving me fits and I wanted a dual-core system to work out some frustrations playing supreme commander. Before I disassembled my old system I wiped the hd and installed xp on it (wd 120g) to use on the new system. After putting the system together and was able to get into the bios and read all the hd's, cd's, memory, cpu, and status. then I tried to boot the hd. nothing. I tried to boot from the cd, I was able to load the drivers that first run when booting from the cd. But when the message at the bottom of the screen displayed "setup is starting windows" it froze. I have done as much as I can think of from only having one dvd and hd in as many configurations as possible to moving the mem to the a2 b2 slot and still nothing. I have also removed one of the video cards just to be on the safe side.
Also at boot it gives me the option of what to boot from so I have been able to attempt to boot from the old hd that has windows xp on it but it gives me the error "A disk read error occurred". could it be jumpers, I have them set on cable select.
Please help.
Jeff

At the F6 prompt, you need to load the drivers for the SATA/RAID controller. You can load the drivers onto a floppy or a thumb drive, then point to that directory when Windows prompts you to do so. If that's not practical, just disconnect the S-ATA devices when installing XP. Once the OS is working, then install all the motherboard drivers from your motherboard CD, shut down the computer, and then connect the S-ATA drive(s).
Thank you for the information. I spent the morning installing the drivers from the motherboard install disk to no avail. I then took out all the S-ATA devices(hd) and attempted to access my old hd through IDE. Nothing. I then attempted to install a new OS onto the HD, still stalls on the window start screen. I put the jumpers on the HD to master per an web (can't give address yet) explanation using the SATA/IDE Mini Converter to see if it would help. I am beginning to think there is a problem with the 120g hd so I will not use it for an install, I have other HD to use to try installing XP. Every time I try to use the thumb drive with the driver "SiI3132 SATA 64Bits Driver Disk" it gives me the error "The file \amd64\si3132.sys is corrupted". I have used other drivers on this thumb with out any problems so I am stumped as to what to do next. I have tried all the drivers on the Motherbord CD that I thought would work.
Should I be using another driver for the S-ATA? Should I shoot the computer? Please?
Again thanks for your help
