making a router

hey whats up all? I wanna take a old computer i have and use it for a router/proxy. I was looking for something windows based. I would use linux based but problems in compatiability with nics and ive never used it before.Anyone know where i could look for info.

    The less there is to muck up, the better off you are. Using Win2K server is just asking for trouble. Try Smoothwall. It's free and it's easy to set up, even if you have no experience with Linux. As for NIC compatibility, Linux works with just about any modern network adapter.

    i guess ill try clarkconnect or smoothwall i had probs with smoothwall when i tried to install about 3 months ago so i might try clarkconnect. thanks guys for info.

    Coyote Linux works wonderfully for NAT/DHCP services and runs off a floppy disk. :)
