DOT4 ?! - Help Required!!

A colleague of mine cannot print from her machine to a specific printer.

She can print to a different printer, and to pdf...

I (and most others) can print to the printer which she cannot...

I looked at the differences - mine is using DOT4_001 as the port, hers is using something different, some local port thing... DOT4 is also not listed as a port option for her.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get DOT4 listed as a port?!!

Yea I'm sure you know DOT4 isn't a port that Windows installs. You need the print driver install disk. But I also had your problem once and it was a BIOS issue. Go into BIOS, I/O settings and change LPT1 to "Normal" instead of EPP/ECP. That did it on one of mine.

    Stop the presses.

DOT4 is a USB printer port. Is this a printer that is hooked up via USB to your computer but you need someone else to print to it as well? Give us the network layout.

    Stop the presses.

DOT4 is a USB printer port.

DOT4 uses USB yes. But at the print driver level it is not a USB. And if you go to add a new printer and in the process choose to add a new port, DOT 4 is not an option that any Windows OS provides. That's why his user doesn't have one. And even if you install them the BIOS can conspire against you.

They are also notoriously difficult to network on any basis other than a peer to peer share type arrangement.
