I restored my ipod and when it was done restoring it never came up with the thing that asks you what the name of your ipod is etc... so now everytime i try to connect it to itunes itunes doesnt recognize it. it does nothing. My computer recognizes it great everything works fine with my pc and ipod. just itunes. I dont think it ever finished restoring for some reason. I want to try restoring it again but the only way i know of restoring my ipod is through itunes. is there any other way of restoring it? Is there any way that i can just format my ipod and then download the program files (software) to make it run? or after i format it is the program files already in my ipod?

If your iPod is running in disk mode- Windows recognized it and assigns it a drive letter- then you should be able to reformat it, then iTunes should recognize it and be able to restore it.

I've had to do it once before when I replaced my iPod's HD. Glad it worked for you.

first make sure your computer is recognizing the ipod.
to do this click on my computer.
under devices with removable storage you should see your ipods name.(since it has never been plugged in on this computer its probably just called ipod then a drive letter)
If it is not there then let me know.
im guessing it is there and if it is then make sure itunes is closed
    click on my computer again
right click on your ipods name in the drop down box click on format.
make sure it says fat 32 in one of the boxes.
and also check the box that says quick format.
    then click start.
once it is done open itunes
then click on restore. and follow instructions from there.
oh ya and make sure you have the latest itunes installed on that computer.
