WGA tool can't validate genuine MS install!
My-1-Problem----Me-
Queensland, Australia, 4710
I went to the official MS Windows site to have a look for some xtra stuff and ended up getting hoodwinked with a Windows Genuine Advantage Validation pig-in-a-poke Tool. I've tried MS tech help, huh-doh! , no joy at all.
In 3weeks they've; lost my 1st request, the second was answered by the service dept who told me we dont handle tech problems, go somewhere else ? I've been waiting for a couple more days now, shouldn't be too long now, NOT!
Thanx MS for your support
The error number is:0x80080101 or 0x800b0100
The message basically reads that I am unable to have my genuine product validated due to a Crytagraphic Error Detection
I installed a few programs, bluetooth, LG Phone sync, iPod and an audio program, MixPad, that has since gone. I really have no idea???
Can anybody help me resolve this, it would be much appreciated.
Here's the MS diag results:

Try again.
No good! keeps trying to validate just cant get there!
or maybe he has errased it and can only get small dumps of Michael Jacksons floppy!!!
There is a very easy fix for this. Go to microsoft(dot)com(slash)Genuine(slash)diag(slash) and click the “Start Diagnostic" button. If the tool finds any issues, click the "Resolve Now" button. The tool will, most likely, resolve the issue on it's own or will provide you further instructions.
Thank you,

Hi Darren
Thanx for the potential Heads-up. However it was short lived.
I have attempted each of your steps, and others supplied by MS Support personel, but still met with a brick wall.
The only solution I believe left to me is a new installation.
Reason: While reading some of the notes from MS support et al. it was suggested that some software installations actually change or remove the validation file/s, which leaves me now with a further dilema, how do I reinstall w/o loosing the things I have installed and the files- holy crapper- the files I have?
What is your suggestion?
If I have to reinstall, how do I go about that?
I thought I was over making mistakes with my last computer, ****e happens I guess!
Rob
What results did you get from the diag site?
Also, before you reinstall, I would also suggest, going to microsoft(dot)com(slash)genuine and clicking on the "Microsoft Genuine Advantage Support" link (left side, 6th link from the top). From there, you can either:
Go to the WGA Forum (last link on the right side, under "Additional Links") and I can continue to troubleshoot your issue (I'm the WGA Forum Program Manager)
or
Submit a Technical Support request (very bottom link). WGA issues receive free support. (I suggest this option since the diag site, that I suggested, didn't work for you, which is very unusual since the site was built to correct Cryptographic Errors...among other things)
I am Very sorry you are having this issue, but we would very much like the opportunity to fix the issue for you. (preferably without you having to reinstall )
Thank you,
Darin Smith

That should repair permissions for files that need to modified/accessed in the validation process.
Thank you for your reply Thrax:D
I run the Dail-A-Fix exe, following each of the steps.
Unfortunately, I still have no joy.:shakehead
Thanx for the try though :sad2:
I can't remember what they were. They were dubious at best and, started to make the computer run really slow.
Double clicking folders took ages to open things like messages I knew I'd sent were not in the outlook sent folder.
I thought I was going crazy, thinking, I only thought I'd done it!
(I stopped experimenting with drugs 20 odd years ago, maybe it's residual. Dunno???)
Anyhow I got rid of them and soon after got a recomended update notification, try this handy little tool for keeping pirates outa our software site.
Running the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool I kept getting that annoying little popup every 10 minutes or so saying there was a problem with Validation.
MS support eventually picked up my request for help (both of them) and sent me the standard reply, go to the validation site, run this-run that, run something else and send me this and that. I was eventually sent a formula/scrit to run as a 'Update.bat'.

After following the instructions and then restarting I got a window saying my Sonic installation needed to be reinstalled- FECK!!!
WHERE THE HELL IS THAT!!! haven't done it cause I dont know where it is
Now, tonight- 3 hours ago, before thrax gave me the DAIL A FIX.exe site. I have another little window saying you got problems with your ATI Drivers, SHOOT WHERE DOES IT FREAKING END!!!
AARGH!!!
I'm sure my Validation Files have been altered/moved or removed.
Everything used to work before this STUPID TOOL WAS ADDED.
I'm no rocket scientist, but can I get some help and advice about reinstalling.
Rob

Thanks for your reply mate, I'm not sure what to do with the uninstaller???
I broke a nail before my last correspondance:O , and because of the frustration, was having a little (paranoid) background biatch about those unscrupulous ,,, these, these.... information hackers, virus propogators and trojan makers,,, digging up some sort of way to inflict immeasurable anguish on us unsuspecting citizens, coz if I got some sorta wicked meanass--trojan- eat my system make it useless- horse, "I'll wanta KILL sumfin!!!"...... There i go again , but at least you know how I feel!
This is partly why I decided to run the WGA tool, I'm no saint though , I've ripped a song or two to do a bit of mixing FOR MY OWN USE. I think we all have skeletons we rationalise....;)
So I guess my question is what should I uninstall with the uninstall program?
Darin
I'm not sure if you heard what my problem is about, I feel a bit like kylie from southpark here you know the part where he gets the megaphone out and says "Oh, I'm sorry." (turns the megaphone on and up) "I SAID, ....." sorry mate, I'm frustrated and i'm trying to make light of the situation so I don't go crazy!!!
I submitted two requests for help with the Validation issue, as it was a while before the first was answered. I thought it was not received.
I let the first guy know I had submitted a second request for assistance, since then I have not heard from him!!!!
The second case handler is helping but we have not reached a solution yet.

Consequently I've logged replies to MS Support with answers to questions asked of my system.
I have received correspondance containing possible solutions posed by the staff, including but not limited to running a script, registering dll's changing catroot2 folder supplying the 25 character registratration code etc. from said MS Support Staff, all with the same result. I have cryptographic errors detected.
I have run the diagnostics each time after completing the steps for solutions, with the same result. Cryptographic Errors Detected.
I have hit the resolve button at the bottom, with the same result. "Unable to determine at this time if your copy of windows is genuine, please try the alternate validation method". this dumps me on the error page default for support.
I have rerun the Validaton Tool that many times, my keyboard types it automatically as I sit in front of the computer.
I still receive critical updates though, these install without an error message, which is funny coz if my version is not genuine, why is the software being updated from MS?
I have gone to the self help sections of MS, checked out the forum, where I learned some programs alter or remove the key element in validating windows installs when they are installed.
If I could just get the files generated by you guys from a mockup of my system and insert them in the right places that may solve it.
Yeah I know I'm clutching at straws.
Darin if you'd like to contact me personally via the case numbers above and help me resolve my issue.I would only be too happy to shed light on anything you are uncertain about,
Done that! the problem lay with several corrupt files and conflicts.
No doubt caused from a dubious program. When or IF I know what it was that caused it, I'll post it, to let others know not to play with it.
I couldn't stand it any more so 2 days ago after saving all my files to a 280Gb zip drive that I borrowed from a friend, -I just reinstalled windows, stuck the disk in and started fresh. :o
All the essential stuff is back on line now, I'll catch up with the non essentials later in the week.
My ISP has choked me cause of the dwnld traffic, I'll be restricted to 65kb for a week or so-sucks! but at least I can work.
Thanks everybody for your help, I'm going to close this thread as I believe it to be resolved for now.
Rob
