Explore File window Crashes

edited April 2007 in Science & Tech
I have a file folder on my desk top which I store videos on and lately it seems to error, freeze and then crash everytime I try to access any of the files. Granted there was like almost 9GB of info in that file, but I tried extracting several files from the folder to relieve the amount of data in the file and still no avail. Does anyone know why this is happening? Any idea?

Could it possibly be the avi files that I have in the files? Since it doesn't seem to happen when there are only WMV files in there. Which I think is still weird because I've had several avi files in the folder for several months and this never happened.

thanks in advance for the help.

Create multiple folders within the main folder and distribute the data evenly among those sub-folders.

I would if I could but whenever I opened the folder it automatically crashed...I just gave up. Gah! Part of me is just wanting to know if this is just too much data in one folder or if it is a bigger symptom of the growing list of problems with my PC

    1. Growing list of problems? Please be more specific. I'm sure we can help you.

    2. Have you tried redistributing all that data, operating in Safe Mode? (do you know how to get into Safe Mode?)

I keep getting application errors when I try running things. I was going to try to install software for my new wireless keyboard and mouse, but it said the setup.exe had errors and couldn't read it. It wasn't because of my CD drive because it reads other cds just fine.

I'm getting so frustrated ith my system.

If this is a very recent problem, you could give System Restore a try.

Jayta, I just though of something else. Have you recently installed in new viewing software, folder managers, or anything related?. If you have, it could be some software program running in the background is trying to index or catalog all your data when you open or try to manipulate the problem folders.
