Help virus destroyed my internet!

So my computer had a virus.

I had to go to safe mode and did a scan.

It deleted

C:\windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys

It was like 250 kb large.

My network connection are gone, and my Device Manager says "Window cannot load driver....etc (Code 39).

So I went to intel and downloaded the Intel Pro/100 VE driver, went to my Windows CD and open ndis.sy_ to that folder and renamed it to ndis.sys

Rebooted..........still doesn't work?

What am i missing here?

You're missing the ndis.sys file which AFAIK is important, though I'd bet a virus burrowed its way into that file and now it's gone...

Meto, I don't know what AFAIK means but if it means "really", I agree with RWB. You might be looking at a repair install. Ever done one? MS tells you how here. That might be the straightest line to a fix.

Ya, so I'm trying repair install,

but when i put in my disk, it doesn't give me that option, just a install thats going to over write everything.

Maybe that 8 steps to repair thing that Thrax made would be useful? TBH anytime I need to do a repair on my computer I just go ahead and reinstall windows all together haha

Meto is this a retail Windows disk or the manufacturer's "restore" disk? A lot of those restore disks don't do much else but.....reinstall the whole thing. I'm a little like RWB, if you had a virus in there that did that much damage, you could be really sure it's gone if you reinstalled everything.

Try running ComboFix. I am hoping it will rectify any problems.

Download ComboFix to your Desktop - combofix.exe
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

I think I got a bad virus that screwed up my laptop and desktop so the ethernet doesn't work(both on the same network).

Anyways I formated, and reinstalled windows. And my ethernet controller driver for both still aren't working. Could the virus have affected my firmware?

Anyways it says the ethernet controller driver isn't working.......and I've tried installed drivers for dell, the other is a custom built one, so I don't know what to download for that.....

No reason to close the thread. Half or more of threads at the forums continue to receive active traffic even after the thread originator's issue is adequately addressed.
