cant u just put the Xbox on the network, then it wont needs its own IP will it? I got 5 diff PC's on a network, and only mine has its IP registered with NTL.
A Router doesnt have an external IP address ever anyway, you only need more than one external IP address if you dont want the hassle of Port forwarding or using NAT (which is automatic). You just need to stick the X-Box into the Switch/Hub/Router and thats it, you dont need and extra IP address.
Ah, you are listening to what the NTL techs tell you to do, rather than doing it yourself, I wouldnt.
I wouldnt listen to what they tell you, as you will end up buying some crap overpriced equip which they get paid extra to advertise etc etc, but in general, dont listen to compaines "recommendations".
"Will I see a slowdown in internet access while playing xbox live games?"
Yes, but it depends on the game. Also if you are downloading off say, Kazaa on your PC then it will kill the ping on your X-Box, its basically the same as PC gaming, just alot less options.

You shouldnt really notice, well with PC games your ping will not differ if you use 128k or 1024k - it only needs so much.
