9800 non-pro or 9700 pro?

Cards available for the same price so it comes right down to performance. There can't be much between these two and if 9800 non-pro will clock to pro speeds then it would seem to be the better choice. What do you think?

    I still think it's sick how these vid card companies tinker with their naming standards.

    A 9700 pro will clock to 9800 speeds, and a 9800 Pro will clock to (hypothetical) 9900 speeds, but a 9800 non-pro will likely not clock to 9900 speeds etc... for the most part the "pro" indicates there's better core/memory for more overclocking potential.

    Help... I can't find any benchmarks on th 9800np just some Italian stuff that auto translated into gibberish.

    See anything let me know.

    Um, in many cases SAME CORE for both Pro and non-Pro. When memory, which is slower and not replaceable by itself, cannot keep up with core, card malfs, and folks think is both.

    To make core go higher, try cooling graphics card RAM with small heatsinks or buy a Pro with faster memory.

    In some cases, you will get cores that are not able to meet spec, but expect those to be more often sold on OEM cards teamed with RAM so slow you cannot overstrain the limited cores. But, expect same design internally in cores for a given Radeon and the externals, especially RAM, to be better by a lot inb the Pro-- also, check out mfr Limited Edition cards that have not sold, in some cases electronically they are exactly or so close to the same as Pros that an LE is the better value. LEs are first releases usually, not the only ones of that general design to be made. They CAN perform as well as Pros if the Pros later use same electronics.

    VE's, with ATI brand\card mfr'd Radeon, are not as good as LE's or Pros usually-- at least for speed.

    The 9800NP, it has a more refined core than the 9700Pro and is supposedly more oc'able than the 9700P (I believe) and comes with Smartshader 2.1 and Smoothvision 2.1 (compared to the 9700P's Smartshader 2.0 and Smoothvision 2.0)

    True or false? :confused:
