Heat monitor problem

edited July 2003 in Hardware
I'll check what temperature my cpu is running at in bios (after about an hour of running) and it would list about 36°C. But if I check in windowsXP with asus probe 2 it will say about 50°C.

To make things weirder: I'll have my comp running for about a day and the asus probe reading in windows will stay the same. But when I check in bios it will skyrocket to over 70°C.

So which one is more accurate? The bios reading or the program in windows.

I'm running an XP2100+ @ 2.16 ghz on an asus a7n8x-deluxe if you're wondering.

My computer doesn't crash at all so I'm thinking the 70°C reading is wrong. The usual 50°C reading I get is high but it isn't as sinister as 70.

Could the asus probe be reading the diode and not the thermister for example? There is a 15 to 20 degree differance usually from diode to thermister.

Try MBM5 to monitor temps. I have had bugs and probs with the asus util at times.

Ok I guess bios was monitoring the diode.

I'm running MBM5 right now. My mobo is reading 37°C, CPU socket at 50°C, and the diode at around 60°C.

Thanks for clearing it up :)
