double DOH!

Software suggestions for recovering all or part of a text file from one of two hard drives after deleting the raid 0 array follwed by partitioning and reformatting each drive NTFS. Text file would be no more than 2KB so would have been written to one of the drives and not split. Not much been copied on these drives yet so may not be overwritten. I know formatting doesn't wipe the drive but not sure about deleting the raid.

If I could search the drive sectors with a hex/txt viewer of some sort then maybe I could find enough of the information and rebuild from that. Any suggestions what program I could use to scan/search the drives.

So many commercial recovery programs out there it's hard to find a simple hex/txt hard drive viewer come editor come search.

TIA

Send me an email. Do not use the drives. Recovery programs may not work on the raid-0 after the stripe was broken and a new array created. Did you just delete the partiton? Or create a new array? Did you do a full format or just a quick format? fat32 or ntfs?

Send me an email and I can get ya started anyway.

Panic over Tex I got the information back. Sooooo close to loosing all my time based billing information for the work I have done this month.

Your offer of help very much appreciate. Out of interest what would you have suggested. I used a demo of copy of Acronis Diskeditor 6.0 to text search all 60 million sectors on 3 x 30GB drives. Eventually I found what I was looking for... but by this time the mouse had locked up.

Been a weird day today. Network card stopped working had to replace it. PS/2 stopped working constant clicking sound and right mouse click not responding so now it's working off of USB. CPU runnig at 65 deg C idle so slapped on a new but cheap heatsink droped to 55 deg C which will have to do for now. Two crashes to the desktop with "windows has recovered from hardware failure" and dumped into 640x480. One of the IBM 30GB drives out of the raided pair was making some god awful noise when I reformatted so I think it's one for the bin. Then I get beep codes one long two short - no video signal so reseated the graphics card and hey presto! I've only got the software problems now... so the rest of the day I have been....

You don't even want to know.

Best thing right now would be an ice cold beer.

I've had a sorry morning also... Don't even ask... But at least I can get thru it downing screwdrivers all afternoon to dull the pain.

I have (cough... cough...cough....) several data recovery tools that are unreal at recoverying unreadable or formated disks. Was goping to turn you onto them if needed.

    Good Luck
