How much HD space do you have and what do you use it for?

Of course if you have 20 gigs or so most of it will go towards the OS, apps and whatnot, but what are people with 80+ gigabyte HDs using it for?

I have a 100gb and use it to store mp3s, movies, keeping CD swapping down and Virtual PC HD images.

damn.. my high school algebra II teacher would flunk me on the spot if she could only see this poll. Could someone change the choices so they read correctly. For example 30 <= x < 40. Thanks

I am running a dual boot with lots of storage.

Recently I added a second RAID 0 with (2) WD 600JB's , it was too good of a deal to pass up since I got both drive for $50.00. I primarily got the other drives because I always wanted to try having my swap file on another RAID 0, I now have a 4G partition on the begiining of each array for my swap files. Each swap is on the alternate OS's drive. It really made a big difference in performance over my previous set up with my spare single drive holding my swap file. Even though I don't use all my space I still needed to compress everything on that is on my backup drive.

    300GB, 85% full
descending order of how much space each takes up (estimate):

    - CD Images (both downloaded and homemade)
    - Installed games
    - Movies
    - General programs for work and tweaking
    - Music
    - OSes
    - Documents

Never thought I'd be able to use so much space but here I am...

Well, I MAY add another 160-480GB of space here in the next couple days- I can get Maxtor DiamondMax 9s for $119 each, $90 each after rebates, and I have a print server to set up (1 drive), plus possibly a backup drive for each of the desktops...

well, i'm gonna post here just to see if anyone else has a bigger penis than me...

    2x 30 gig IBM 75GXP
    1x 60 gig IBM 60GXP
    1x 120 gig Maxtor Diamondmax + 9, 8mb
    2x 120 gig Seagate 7200.7, 2mb
    2x 160 gig Maxtor Diamondmax + 9, 8mb
    2x 200 gig Maxtor Diamondmax + 9, 8mb

Should give me about 1200 gigs "on-paper", while the total I estimate to roughly 1100 gigs "actual".

TV-Series, Movies, MP3, Porn, Games... the usual.

Got my 120 gig Seagates in external firewire chassies, so I'm gonna use harddrives instead of cds from now on...

i think your penis is in my back pocket....

i think i have currently have eclipsed the 4tb mark.

to list all the drives is difficult but i will highlight the bad boys.

1*1.9 tb array broken down by 12 160gb seagate ide's in a hotswap chassis. raid 5

252gb using a eurologic chassis and 7 seagate 36gb 15k fiber channel drives. raid 0

3*36 gb ibm 15k piranah 68 pin scsi's raid 0 in video box.

three arrays internal in a compaq proliant server
various sized and all are raid 5

if i can count correct i think i am up to 12 deskstar 120 gxp's

    4*120gb seagate sata

and many misc drives on the shelf.

i use it for video, and various collections of the usual.

i have to say that scsi is by far my perferred drive format and if you take a little time and closely watch ebay you can find some halicious deals but you had better be ready for the added noise and heat.

man, that is a delicious amount of hard drive space . . .
for us boys that are under the 1 terabyte mark, what all do you folks know about the relatively new 300 gig drives. I have been thinking about picking up one of these bad boys. any problems, too pricey?

EDIT:\\ I just checked on newegg, and they seem to have a maxtor 300 gb for 288. however, its 5400 rpm and has 10 ms seek time with a 2 mb cache. is this one of the new drives? are all 300+ hard drives expected to have specs this low?

they'll probably get bigger and faster with the s-ata standard. I'm not sure, but I think that's the new focus area for drive production and improvement. I find that 120-200 gigs are the best when you think about price as of today. That is if you have room for them. You want to cram a terrabyte of divx into one computer you might as well go for the large drives, as you don't need too fast drives for basic storage. I got a couple of emagic external usb2/firewire chassies for harddrives, and my plan is just to get 120 gigs on sale and use them as cds :)

I only have 40 gigs and right now im useing 20 gigs for a film about my gameing clan. Since i only have 20 gigs to spare on it now it's going to be only 4 minutes instead of the 10 I wanted to do. 100 gig's would be a dream come true. That'll have to wait till nextyear.
