Need help with AMD Athlon XP Processor fan

edited September 2003 in Hardware
I just got all the parts for my new computer, and I get it all put together... exept for the cpu fan. I don't know what kind of fan it is, though. All I know is that it's a clip on (I think). But whenever I try to "clip it on", it just won't work. My sister's boyfriend might be able to help me out tommorow night, but I don't know. You probably don't have enough info to know my problem, though. I don't really know how to explain it better.
Thanks.

    hey funckore,

    welcome to icrontic.

my recommendation would be to wait for someone to help you.
because you dont flirt with AMDxp cpu's, if that heatsink it placed the wrong way.... say bye bye to the cpu.

    OR

    use this guide from amd

    good luck

Use the above guide, and if it's the retail heatsink, and the CPU in question isn't a 2200+ or faster, I'd suggest you get a new heatsink ASAP. All AMD retail heatsinks for CPUs below 2200+ are just plain crap.

the retail HSF's that come with the 2500+ are very nice! copper base.

about time! those suckers run h0t!

Citrix, the heatsink that you are referring to is the one that I don't mind- it's an Ajigo unit, copper base, thin soldered aluminum fins. Sometimes it's nickel plated, others it's not, but it's got a 60x13mm Delta fan. That heatsink does a pretty decent job. All other retail HSFs though just plain suck.

    yup ur right.

Personally, I would always invest in a nice cheap thermalright hsf , sk6 /7 are awesome, worth every penny.
