How do you enter the BIOS on an IBM Thinkpad 380Z?

I have tried all the default keys and it doesn't get me anywhere. As there is also nothing displayed at post, just the IBM logo, then the thinkpad logo.

Cheers,
NS

    f2? Delete? Insert? f9? Alt + enter? Ctrl + f1?

Tried hitting tab or escape at POST? try that to get it to display a standard POST screen. Barring that, start hitting keys.

Start with F1. let it load up to the windows boot screen to make sure it's not going to cooperate, then go to f2, f3, etc. all the way through F12.

If none of the function keys work, try delete and insert... if that doesn't work, start hitting things at random.

I usually go for the random keys when I don't know. Boot, and start pounding away. Gotta get it sooner or later:)

Someone mentioned needing a boot disk to get into the BIOS, which sounds a bit crazy to be honest, I mean, how do I boot from a boot disk when I cant get into the BIOS to tell it to boot from the floppy not the HD >.<

I'll try some more random keys....

do you have more than 1 stick of ram in there? Sometimes you can pull 1 out and then have the BIOS give you a warning that says "amount of memory changed" or whatever, and then it'll prompt you to hit a key to go into BIOS.

I hit like every key at the same time when the IBM logo was up and it went into the BIOS. Turns out you have no control at all, just a little picture of the different sub systems which you can click (the mouse works) and it checks them for problems, you can't actually change anyway. Bit crappy really as you cant boot from CD (but you can from floppy).

    Oh well.

Right. I upgraded from Win98 to 2000 on it because my Atheros WiFi card refused to work in 98. But the thing is, as it is only a 300mhz P2 with 64MB RAM and a slow HD, Win2k runs like crap.

Are there any tweaks or things I can do to try and make it run at a remotely useable speed? (The only hardware upgrade I can do it upgrade it to 64MB which is the max).

    1. Power off the 380Z
    2. Press and hold F1
    3. Power up the 380Z
    4. wait until the Easy-Screen shows up

Following is the link to the 380Z hardware maintenance manual:

Sorry, worked this out shortly after posting. If you check, you'll see the thread is a year old....
