Hawk had this to say Madmat & TheSMJ, I didn't even think of it till I said something to Gnome about the prob you guys are experiencing. He reminded me that you have to put in the 436 patch or you will get errors like that. Have you guys put in the patch?
croc, LOL the server is in Detroit. Warchild-- I tried and tried playing UT2k3, but it's so slow as far as compared to how you move in the original game. It seems it's a different gaming engine and I just don't like it. And I couldn't wait for it to come out so I could buy it. Man, What a disapointment.
Josh, It's dedicated. I had it set up on gamingfort.com. It's running under a linux OS server. It's fast. As fast as any I've played on in 4+ yrs of UT fraggin. I'm i n the process of getting a redirect set up for the map DL's. Just got mapvote in, and UTPure is going in as soon as I can get to it.
I did find ways to protecting from it, mainly aimbotting, when hosting the server, but I have forgot how. I can possibly look through all files for some
thing though.
EDIT: AH..I REMEMBER! I'll post on it in a little bit, I have company over.
Cheating on Unreal Tournament, was a true sport to some people that couldnt play the game.
The most commin cheat, "aimbot", was controlled by the console in an .ini file, it is very easy to configure, and only requires the replacing of one file in your Unreal Tournament/System/ folder. The way that the "aimbot" was detectable was by detecting the console on game joining, checking for any alterations or anything at all that is modified. The down side, some are subject to error, being disallowed to some game servers for no reason. UTPure, formerly known as CSHP, was the only protection against the cheaters. Quite some time ago, players would have the ability to modify skins and textures onto there players, through the USER.INI file located in the system folder, however, this has been fixed with the update of the 436 patch. "Aimbot", will never be able to be stopped. There will always be a way around the protection, even if the game is built NOT to accept the alteration in any way. Brilliant people - even idiots, might find a way around any protection, with simple or complex procedures. The only true way to try to protect, is to get UTPure and upgrade to the latest patch. I wish I still had my former files that protected against the "aimbot", but they are outdated, and would easily be worked around. Until there finally is a stop to the modification of the ini files, and console, there is no stop to memory-attaching 3rd-party programs, or modification and alteration of DLL files. All you can do mostly, is administrate your server to the best of your ability, ip banning, and banning cheaters.
I didn't provide how to attach them, I provided the information of how they were done. Most people do not have the necessary knowledge to modify a file to alter the console into autoaiming..and if they do..ban them. Quick, simple, effective. There are also a few hundred aimbots already created...a good search on google would allow anyone to get one. It's just a matter of how well you prevent them.
Thats a start I guess..I assume that there are more to come. Remember they may be one person getting banned over and over..Obtaining IP addresses or proxying onto a server isnt hard. There isn't a stop to glitches...and soon enough, people will just have to deal with them. Only until another protection is put out to stop it, and it is again bypassed and modifications are back again. Its an ongoing cycle.
Don't I know it! I'm working on getting the UTPure in there as fast as I can too. Hope to have it done in a few days. Didn't mean to sound like a smarta** there josh, just that the cheat coders are a pain. Gotta search the files all the time for stuff to find them.
I know, they are a pain in the @$$..I dealed with them for about a year. Once you get into Last Man Standing..a whole new world. Aimbotting + Camping..lamest thing ever.
OK gang, The UT server now has mapvote 3.04 and it's set so you can choose DM,CTF,AS,DOM,etc. And you can choose the map in that game type. UTPureRC6E is in. <(For those of you that don't know it's an anticheat patch.) Also I'm working on getting a map redirect to download maps quickly from the game. Also It's a 16 person server, so many can play at once. Happy Fraggin
prof, Yes, That's camping. And sitting behind a respawn area with the impact hammer or gun of your choice, with the trigger held down so everytime someone respawns they are killed instantly. Or camping in a hidden place so you can pop everyone coming through. I usually watch for campers. Not to much problem with them so far. But the NBAntiCamper sounds good josh. I'll put that on the list for loading into the server. LMS, mmnnn, Yep, It's in there too josh. I'll look into getting the counter. Cool.
I went on your server, fragged a game. I switched the gametype to LMS, all I can say is there is a TON of bots and the frag limit is like 30 (should be around 10.). Those are the only two traits that are undesirable, other then that, not too bad. I'll play more often if some peeps stop in.

I THINK so...
Where is this server located? :o
198.64.189.26
Go easy on me...
but thanks!
prof gets fooled. again. :banghead:
(People like to cheat on games, games that are made for fun.)
thing though.

Someone should contact you any time now, if they already haven't
He should be an expert in UT linux servers, and his instructions are do anything you ask, so make a good wish list
(keeps track of your kills)
I always took it to mean just hiding out and sniping (which seems fair enough, if you can get away with it). Am I wrong?
