I started the game on Marine difficulty and It is fun so far although I played through the first 2-3 missions during light time so it wasn't quite as scary and I didn't have my speakers turned up loud enough I guess cuz as soon as it got darker and I turned those speakers up the game got 10x more intense! I'm lovin it! I just died for the first time to see what it was like (actually because I got ambushed :P)

You pussy! :p Play it on Veteran skill! It's so much more intense

I have to chime in here as I am utterly floored with the game as well. I was worried at first I would get poor performance with my system as it is pretty outdated. Athlon XP 2400+ , 1gig Corsair XMS, Geforce 4 Ti4200.. I really wasn't expecting playability over 800 * 600.

Well I'm currently playing at 1024 * 768 at the medium settings and have never had a slow down yet, and it looks fucking gorgeous. I can't even imagine how it could look better! But when I get my new 6800 I'm sure I will be able to tell the difference.

Anyway I forget what mission I'm at but I think I'm pretty far, and I died for the first time last night on this mission. If I remember right, I finally thought I was going to meet with Bravo Team, then a cut scene insues and shows them all getting whiped out then the place exploding. I "think" that was the last level I am at.

I watched those 2 weird military guys that you've been following the whole game, get into a truck and leave. Then I met up with that Kim guy (asian) and he gave me the transmission card or whatever before getting mauled. My current mission is to get the transmission card to the communications lab to send out the distress call to the air units.

I made it pretty far in the mission, then walked down somestairs into a VERY cramped area, and yup, 2 demons spawned, and about 40 of those spiders kept coming at me. It was pitch black down there and I was trying to back into a corner, but the spiders were already surrounded me and were biting the shit out of me. It is so disorienting when you get hit by those things, I was struggling to just try and aim and blast the fuckers off!!! I ended up giving up and dying, then quit for the night..

By the way, anyone else find it really frustrating that you need your flashlight to see in parts of almost every room, you'll see some monsters in the dark, but in order to shoot them you need to turn your flashlight off? Technically makes sense, but it is a bitch because you are shooting blind. I usually find the guys in the dark with light, then just "aim" in the direction and blast away. It still is al ittle frustrating though.

Anyone else also get in the habit of every single time you open a door, you use your flashlight and scan the floor, AND ceiling of the room before going in? I know I'm like tip toeing around that place, scanning every corner looking for places something might jump out at me before going in :)

Oh and yeah the plasma gun rocks! Those little skeleton head things are simply when they are far away and there is a few, but when you got 15 flying around your fucking head, it becomes a nightmare to try and get them off. I found the plasma gun is the weapon of choice against them.

Also has anyone found a good use for the chain gun? I find it is a piece of crap and only used it on the boss battle with the big human/spider thing on that one level. Other than that I haven't touched it, as the few times Idid, I ended up getting slaughtered.

Hehe, I kill people with it... Actually uhm, I find it useful for sniping, as silly as that sounds. It is basically powerful enough that it has a more "one or two hit kill" sensation and shoots pretty straight, I use it to take out spiders that are really far away, and sometimes grunts. Overall though, shotty is what its all about. Close quarters combat so you can see the red of the enemies eyes!

Chain guns are good when you're surrounded :D Just rip it out and start tearing up the place.

If you play on veteran skill, you'll definately start tip-toeing around the place. I was shining a light down every went and taking as much precaution as possible. When I was playing the normal skill (marine was it?), after the first few levels it gets amazingly very easy, as I was practically running through rooms just killing everyone.

I don't have this game and I don't plan on picking it up until it hits xbox possible. I don't have a video card that can handle it and don't feel the need to upgrade for it.

That being said though How long of a game is it? From what I understand the multi-player is kind of suck ass at the moment which leads me to think that once or twice through the game and it's seriously loosing it's intrest.

I love a good scary game, but I find it's next to impossible to find one because well hell it's a game. So far the only game that's freaked me out a bit is Fatal Frame in a pitch black house in 5.1 sound it's awesome. Silent hill wasn't bad either and had some good creap moments but Fatal Frame is king.

From what I understand, Doom3 takes 20+ hours to beat the first time through. (I don't know for sure because I am not done it yet) As for being scarey, I would say its more scarey then any of the resident evils, silent hills, clive barker, avp1 & 2, and both system shocks.

Like ive mentioned before in this thread, and many others have to: this game makes you jump out of your skin.

I'll have to check it out. I normally find FPS's dull but I'm always looking for a good scare. Question is will my system handle it...Have to test a free version before dropping coin on it.

Kryyst what are your system specs? I was very surprised it ran great on mine, and if you looked at my post, I don't have anything close to a highend machine. Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 megs, Athlon XP 2400.

I'm not saying it won't work on mine I'm slightly above the minimum it's just usually I find with most FPS's the bare minimum specs run like shit. My specs are pretty much the same as yours actually.

I'm about 30 minutes in and am very dissapointed. It looks amazing, the environments are stunning and the physics really bring everything to life.

Gameplay is no different to the original though, so I cant really recommend it yet.

I will keep on playing, probably, its too early to decide yet.

Yep, gameplay is essentially no different...so if you didn't like Doom, you won't like Doom 3. Simple as that.

Thats the thing, I LOVED Doom, still do. Just so many years on you expect a game as groundbraking as the first.

    A WARNING

I do not recommend playing this game at all. I don't know what your backgrounds are as far as believing in God, but I just don't feel right playing this game.

I am a Christian and not a perfect one buy any means. There is something disturbing about this game, and every time I play it I feel convicted.

It is extremely demonic, with blood and pentagrams all over the place. If you do care about what goes into your mind, and what goes into your house, I would recommend passing on this one. It is an open gateway to letting demons into your mind and house. It is straight from hell.

There are plenty of other good FPS on the market that do not have this level of demonic influence: UT2K4, Battlefield 1942, Call of Duty, HALO, and many others.

DOOM 3 is a tool of satan, and I am going to be removing it from my computer and my home. I don't want it influencing me or my family in any way.

if a video game influences the foundations of your moral, religious, and personal beliefs you have issues that go far beyond what you believe your issues to be. I am going to refrain from ranting too much, but I'll be damned if people aren't equipped with free-will and not drones that emulate things they see. You are killing the demons damnit. Don't you see something fundamentally wrong with thinking a game that you destroy evil is itself evil? Unless... unless. OMG, ARE YOU EVIL!?!?!? tehe. Trying to defend the spawn of satan are we...

(uhm, that last part was a joke)

I just beat Doom 3, and I managed to do it without harming any real people. No really all my friends seem totally unaffected by it. Although there is this little girl in my building whose head keeps spinning around. I think that's all her parents fault and is completely unrelated to Doom 3 though. It's ok "Join Us"

I had a clan mate back in the Quake 2 days that suddenly went.... all religious on my ass. He started ranting how evil Quake 2 is, and how he started having nightmares and wanted to send me a bible... naturally, I booted his ass from teh clan

I am a Christian and am fairly strong in my beliefs. I am also a work in progress with my faith.
I would NEVER allow my children to view this game, and I don't believe that a lot of people can handle some of the things that are portrayed. I also believe that the "rating" of age 17/ mature is an understatement.

Do I thing that this is a demonic game? NO. Close, but one must understand the story line and the background of the game, not just what the images are portraying its more of a battle against evil.

This is a mature GAME for mature minds, and it is very much so a GAME!!!! NOT REAL!!!!!! nuf said.

    BTW OMG SWeeeeeeet graphics!
