Is the Macintosh G5 still the "world's fastest PC computer"?

    Never was
    Isn't now
    Never will be.

It's another piece of crap that apple is pushing as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The G3 sucked, the G4 sucked, the G5 sucks. Hell, even the PowerMacs sucked. Apples haven't been competitive (speed-wise) with PCs since the early '90s, if not before...

I don't see how Apple can call it a "personal computer" by any stretch of the imagination. It's a workstation, priced to compete with the IBM RS/6000's and Dell Precision xeon workstations. It's not a bad workstation all things considered, though it could use a few more expansion slots and bays.

Comparing Mac's to x86's is like comparing apples and oranges. I think they both taste good but I'm not going to mistake one for the other and I won't be getting my regular dose of Vitamin C (games) from the apple.

As far as Mac's sucking, it's a matter of personal preference. Apple has made quite a few lemons in its time, but their machines will perform if you upgrade their crappy stock components to decent hardware (CL3->CL2 RAM, UltraATA100 controller, 8MB cache hard drive, M-Audio Revolution 5.1 sound, etc.) Just like Dell, Compaq, HP, or any other OEM, don't expect it to pwn out of the box.

Incidentally, I hate apple and their terrible marketing schemes.

Like I said, same story with Dell and all the other OEM's. They charge a fortune for their "good" machines, but they all suck compared to anything white box. That's why I build my Mac's one piece at a time ;)
