Power Supply Suggestions?

I need a new power supply. My cheapie 300w that I have right now can't handle the load. The 12v rail is always at 11v, and I think it is causing my pc to hang.

I don't want something too expensive, should be somewhat quiet, and between 400 and 500 watts.

Here are a few that I am looking at:

Opinions?

Or would I be better replacing my old case as well, and get something like this?

Just curious what are your specs? Also, what is too expensive?

    1. As Al said, how much is too expensive?
    2. What case do you have now?
    3. As Al said also, what are the system's specifications?

Inwin A500 case w/ 300w generic power supply.
    1700 tbred b @2408 (14*172) on a NF7-S v2. I can go higher but XP hangs. I think it is because the 12v rail is only 11v.

The 3 power supplies listed are between $100-$120 CDN.
The Antec case is only $135 CDN.

    $150 CDN is too expensive.

That antec case is a piece of crap.

I've got the SLK-3700AMB, which is the same case without the fancy punched antec logo, a dual-fan SL-350 Antec PS, and a relocated 120mm intake fan (in front of HDD cage, with the HDDs mounted in their normal front-rear orientation).

It's crap. I hate it. It's fine for stock systems, but it can't handle the heat output of a 2.4GHz 1700... trust me on this one, I had a 1700 @ 2.3GHz in it at one point. I even went so far as to strap a 131cfm 120mm fan on the back. It still couldn't handle it.

The ventillation just plain sucks. I modified mine with 2 80mm blowholes, and the ventillation STILL sucks. The case has been relegated to use with my 1.3GHz Celeron @ 1.5GHz Print Server because that's the only computer I have that runs cool enough that it can handle the heat.

I've used it on stock AMD systems up to 2800+, but at those speeds the top of the case gets noticeably hot because air gets trapped up there.

Bottom line: don't waste your money.

That InWin case tho, really needs to go... (hey, that rhymes... :D). I had one, and they're excellent cases, but not for an Athlon system, especially an overclocked one.. The PS in it, incidentally, is very, very good. You should hold on to it. I like PowerMan PSes. One of the few "off brand" PSes I'll use.

Get an Antec power supply, and a new case. There are a ton of cases out there that could be made into decent ones, but I still think that Antec's performance series cases (and the OEM versions of them) are great. If you can get an Antec SX830/835, that would be perfect. They're better than the SX10x0 cases, in fact.

Barring that, there are a number of other cases that are decent, but I'm not familiar with canadian computer stores, so you'd have to give me links to places you'd buy one from and I could take a look...

I've had great success with the Enermax 465 series (431W) units, have 2, have solid rails on both AMD NF7-S -based and on P4 systems, see some screenies in this thread. You should be able to find these units <$100 maybe even <$90 in Canada. **EDIT** best I've found in a quick look is $108

If you're looking @ something other than Antec PSes, the only ones I'd recommend are:

    Enermax
    PC Power & Cooling
    Allied
    PowMan/InWin

And any manufacturer on AMD's approved PS vendor list should be fine, as long as you buy one that's big enough for your needs.

The powersupply I got with the Inwin blew from a power storm.
I swapped in another one I had laying around.
Thanks for the suggestions, they will help narrow down my choices a bit.

That antec case is much better than the SLK series. The Performance series of cases is pretty good. The SX10x0 series isn't my favorite because it doesn't have fans in front of all the HDD mounts, but other than that, it's fine. I've got a server (1800/A7N8X) in one, and it's fine.
