Email programs issue: SMTP gone wonky

suddenly i am unable to send email using either thunderbird or outlook.

the error msgs keep saying SMTP server issue... or something...

anyone up to the challenge of helping me figure out what happened?

    Well could be that your smtp for your ISP has changed. But have you installed or removed any software lately like a firewall or anti-virus for example they will often play funny with your smtp settings.

    Need more info.

    Yeah, like what specific error it's spitting out would help tons.

    Also, I had this issue once with a school e-mail account - the idiotic person in charge disabled my account's ability to use SMTP, however the heck you do that.

    (That's just what he told me.)

    Sometimes ISPs block port 25 at their whim. Contact your ISP to see if they blocked port 25. Sometimes you have to fill out a form to request port 25 being open. This happened about a year ago with SBC, for example. I had dozens of clients who suddenly couldn't send email from home. Each one had to fill out a form with SBC/Yahoo.

    Sonicpanda. Come on, dude! Just writing "fixed" helps NO ONE here. Tell us what you did/your ISP did to ameliorate the problem. Your posts, especially the solution could help someone else with the same problem. :)
