Hi everyone, Im lookin for some info for a friend but Im havin a hard time trackn it down, has anyone here stumbled across any comparisons between the 6600 GT and the 8600 GT? I would have thought there was more out there on these two cards as from what I understand the 6600 was a pretty popular card…

The 1950 Pro is similar in speed to the 8600GT, however the 1950Pro can be up to 50% faster in certain apps (Notably, HL2).

I don't think you'll find direct review comparisons of the 6600 and 8600 series, they are more than one generation apart. Anandtech though, was less than enthusiastic, to put it mildly, about the 8600GT/GTS. They didn't consider it to be much better than the 7600GT.
The GeForce 6600 GT outperformed the Radeon 9800 Pro in virtually every benchmark, sometimes by large margins. It managed this with prices that were at the time quite a bit lower than the previous generation's champ. GeForce 7600 GT was also typically faster than GeForce 6800 GT/GS, and it once again came with a lower price tag. The 8600 hardware on the other hand doesn't appear significantly faster or cheaper than the cards it's replacing..

Even if we can't expect new hardware at a particular price point to blow away the competition, we would at least like to see a consistently better performance than similarly priced previous generation hardware. Our follow up benchmarks confirm that we simply don't get this from the 8600 series.

That test is like, seriously flawed. I play Oblivion at 1024x768x32 and I get like 60+ frames outdoors, especially in the areas around Chrrol, I never dip below 50.

I got my 8800GTS KO 320mb for $350 at ZipZoomFly.com, with free shipping.

It's by far the best video card I have. and it's definately nowhere near a bottleneck on my system (see below)

If you are not wanting to spend more than 200, go with an 8600GT, but if you're willing to spend more than that, but not much more, than go with an 8800, it's definately worth it.
