Ars delivers again with the skinny on microholography, a technique whereby optical disks boast up to ten layers of information, read by up to five different LASER wavelengths. The technology has a very prosperous outlook, and hopes to boast 1TB of storage with 200Mb/s I/O by 2010.

In other news, stocks for companies producing optical disk scratch-repair devices are expected to soar.

Fixed. And cool technology, by the way. Are hard drives going to go the way of the dodo with these advancements in technology? Think about it, TBs of portable data. Granted, the access times need to improve drastically, but if they can match those speeds, I can't see HDs lasting. Of course, that's a biiiiiiiiiiiig "if" we're talking about.

gigawatt has two pronunciations, one that sounds like giggle, and one that sounds like jiggle.

Sorry Thrax, you're dealing with a tough crowd here. The reference short right over their heads, and they never even looked at it going by....
