What do you do now to get your connection back? Are there any error messages when you lose the internet connection?

Is the connection being lost at the modem or at your router? If your modem is dropping the connection, which you can tell by what the lights are telling you. Then it's your providers responsibility. It could be a bad cable or a bad modem. If your router is dropping the connection then it's your responsibility. It could be a bad cable, a bad router or a bad setting on your router.

The 1st setting to check though is on your router. Most will have a setting similar to 'Keep Alive' It will then either be set to Connect on Demand or a time from 30 sec's to 5 mins. If it's set to Connect on Demand it'll drop it's connection whenever there isn't steady traffic. What steady traffic actually is, is vague because technically there is always steady traffice. But many routers only pick a type of connection for the check. So you could be streaming torrents all day long, but it may not count that as a connection. They are picky. Bottom line is you should have Keep Alive set to 30 - 60 secs. Which means that it'll keep your connection open and will check every 30 - 60 secs to make sure it's still open.

Check the keep alive setting I mentioned. If the router is dropping it could be a bad cable, overheating or overloading depending on what kind of traffic you are putting through it. Have you updated the firmware on your router? I know that many home brand routers have had significant stability improvements with firmware updates. Dlink and Linksys in particular.

also check your signal strength on the modem. www.dslreports.com has info on this. I think for motorolas its 192.168.100.1 in ur browser
