Not sure where this really belongs, but last night while doing a CHKDSK and boottime defrage, it caught a bunch of invalid security descriptors and replaced them with default ones.

Well, after two chkdsks, it finally fixed those, but now the WebClient service has reported an invalid current state 87, and The WebClient service hung on starting.

So, how do I fix this?

    Nobody has any idea?

Note that I do have problems with Diskkeeper 2007 Professional finishing up boottime defrag. It'll get to stage two and up to 10% and then go back directly into windows, and I get corrupt file warnings after that. Doing a 2 hour CHKDSK will fix the file corruptions, but I still get that problem in the first post.

Perhaps the hard drive is no longer in a state of fitness that can be maintained for any length of time?

Not sure, its a brand new drive I bought about 4 months ago. HDDlife Pro gives it a fitness level of 55% (performance/health)

Seek error rate is also at 55%. This is a Seagate 250GB SATA II - ST3250620AS

Well, I managed to fix the Webclient service by disabling it, restarting and then re-enabling it, so it no longer hangs on starting.
