Can someone do a side to side comparision, and pros and cons of these?
If you want a game machine run windows. If you want an box for surfing, general office work, media editing then ubuntu will do the job. If you don't know linux and don't want to take the time to learn stick to windows. If you want a stable server for doing anything but AD or .net/asp then linux rocks.
Seriously. A side by side comparison is basically pointless in a general sense because it could go on for ever. If there is some specific thing you are getting at ask away.

Windows has support for commercial applications, games, and just about every piece of hardware simply because everyone uses it. Ubuntu is more secure, a lot stabler, faster, doesn't require as much maintenance (no defragging), and is a lot friendlier to use in my opinion. However, it will take some getting used to as it is very different and if you want to do things like play DVDs, mp3s, flash, etc... then you will need to do some configuring but it's getting easier and easier to do this. There's plenty of how tos and documentation available if you look for it.
What exactly are you going to use your computer for? That will determine which you should use
