Cannot Run Ad-Aware 2007

Right, I can install (I think?) but not run Ad-Aware 2007. Right after the installation reads "Finished" an error box pops up, stating the program will have to close.

Upon clicking the startup icon in the program group, exactly the same thing: "Ad-AWare 2007 Service has encountered a problem and needs to close." Right after that, another pop-up window: "Error System error: 1814 has occurred. Could not log onto service. Are you running this application as another user. "

This seems to be a Windows configuration problem, possibly user error. I have tried installing the software under the Administrator login as well as in Safe Mode - same problems.

I would just go back to Ad-Aware SE Personal, but when I reinstall it, I can't get the updates so it's back at 2005 protection level. Ouch!

I would suggest uninstalling it, make sure there is nothing in the program files or common files left behind. Then run a reg cleaner to remove any settings left. I'd then also just do a reg scan for 'aware' and see if that finds anything else to delete. Then try re-installing it again.

I have had similar issues. It runs on some of my machines and not others. There must be a conflict of some sort, but I haven't taken the time to find it yet.

Another forum member posted a similar problem. Maybe replace with AVG-Antispyware, Asqaured and Super-Antispyware. Ad-Aware 2007 is not as good as SE IMHO - it misses several nasties that AVG/SUPER and others find.

Logical. Prior to writing this thread, I did that routine about 8 times.

There's definitely something not right with the software. BTW, there's also a problem thread open now at Lavasoft's Support Forums. No answer there either.

Thelemech, I think you've got the answer. I'm not wasting any more time on Ad-Aware 2007 until there's a software fix from Lavasoft. Still though, my hat is off to Lavasoft for provideing Ad-Aware free software for all these years. They are they good guys, and pioneers.

A question for guys running Super-Antispyware, how long dose a full scan take? It takes forever on my machine, 30-60 min depending.
That was a nice thing about Ad-Aware, it was quick.
