Monarch is selling some Gainward GF4 Ti 4800 SE 128 MB video cards. What I am wondering, is UNDER $154.00 shipped decent as far as price goes (this is not a full TIVO, this is a DVI-D +Composite+ S-Video + HD15 VGA connector set, so an analog TV woudl not work unless modern)??? This is a descendant, just barely, of the 4600-- AFAIK. 275\550, AGP 8X or 4X in AGP 3.0 slot, 4X in AGP 2.0 slot. For a full Tivo with this many outs, they also sell a step up card stated as Tivo for $20.00 MORE. Keep in mind I do not need latest and greatest for video card, I do other things than game and have FUN at it.

John-- Whose glasses actually work, mostly- the SunSensor is slow to react in them (they are transitionals\light reactive to grayer) but at least I can fit clipons on these things. I think right lense will be a rework, the prism spec is off somewhat. Got them today, will see how eyes settle in.

Newegg has them for under $140 shipped.

Tivo is a set top digital recording device. You mean ViVo.

Can't say about the video card - I'm not that up on video cards, but I can say that I'm glad to hear that your eyes are doing well so far ;)

Yes Newegg is cheaper. I went to Monarch the other day and saw they had some AMD XP's on close out sale then saw that the marked down price was still at least $5.00 more for an 1800 than NE and you had to pay shipping to boot.

Monarch also charges $18.00 for quad-LED fans when SVC charges ~$6.

Thanks Thrax, but they said TIVO, and specs said it had a separate TV-In\Out GPU on it. Edit on computer, stream from card to HDTV, S-Video, Composite, or old fashioned TV. Yes, essentially ViVo but with not just capture and edit and stream, mode conversion from one GPU through other BOTH ways. "Kinda Like" a Dazzle video media box plus card with Dazzle software, but on a CARD. I think it is called a Ti 4800 Pro XP???? :D

So, within $15.00 given that if I had wanted ground shipping was free and I paid $9.75 for 3-Day FedEx Air, is not too bad from folks I have worked a lot with.

John-- who is sticking with the generation BEFORE the FX, THANK YOU VERY MUCH ANYWHO (Southern for anyhow), nVidia. I would go Radeon, but the other O\Ss I use have nVidia mfr reference drivers available, and with ATI I get to compile my own (NOT!).

It would have a separate TV in/out chip, they all do. Mostly conexant chips.

I checked their page: The Chaintech says "TV-Out" and the MSI says "ViVo."

    There's no Tivo.

I also agree. The FX is nothing but a stinking pile of crap...

Seems to me ATI just released new Linux drivers based on cat 3.8 for all the cards that use the Catalysy series. I think this is right.

Ageek, what are you planning on doing with the card (I didn't see any mention of it..)?

The GeForceFX, is, as you stated, utter, total, complete crap.

Thrax is correct; there are now Linux drivers out for all the Radeon cards from R8500 up.

$150 for a Ti4800 is a ripoff. Anything over $120 is a ripoff. Go to Newegg's refurbished video card section, and check it regularly. You should be able to get one for ~$120 or less.

But for that price, you'd be better off with a Radeon 9500 and overclocking it, or a 9600 or something I think.

Also, check the refurbished section on newegg obsessively (I have it as my homepage)- they have no pre-set update schedule, and when they update, cards that there are high demand for (r9500 Pro, R 9700, R 9700 Pro, R 9800, R 9800 Pro, R 9600, R 9600 Pro, etc.)
