Malware Problems

My computer is acting very strange. I've followed all of the steps that you all have suggested. I've even ran the scans in safe mode. I have seen some improvements and sometimes a scan will say that nothing has been detected. Then after working on the computer for a while, and I perform a rescan, it dectects other threats. I also keep getting a message stating cannot find file:///C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger\index.htm this is something that came up after running the scans. Additionally, I cannot right click on my desktop to make change the wallpaper. This was something that was changed by the malware. Please Help!!!

Hi japan1911, and welcome to Icrontic!

Please do the following...

1. Please go to the C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis folder and rename HijackThis.exe to Scanner.exe.

2. Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

3. This may or may not work due to the infections, but lets check.
• Run Hijackthis.
• Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
• Next click on Open uninstall manager.
• Press the Save list button.
• Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
• Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.
4. Please post the following...

SmitfraudFix report
Uninstall list <-- if you can get one
New HijackThis log

Below are 2 of the 3 logs. The AVG Anti-Spyware report is missing. I ran the scan in safe mode, but I was unable to determine if all of the correct checkboxes were clicked under "How to scan" because the screen was so large I counldn't see the left side. I tried adjusting the resolution under display setting in the control panel but it didn't accept the change. I did verify that all other setting were correct. The AVG Anti-Spyware scan found 6 Objects.

Trojan Agent.ahq
2 Downloader.agent.dag
2 Adaware. Companion
Not-A-Downloader.Win32.WinFixer.x

They were all quarantined. The scan did not produce a report. The Save Scan Report was grayed out.

Hi japan1911,

Good job!

Please do the following...

1. Updating Java:
• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
• Adobe Reader 6.0.1
• Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
• MyWay Search Assistant
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
2. Download the latest version of Adobe Reader

3. Please download ComboFix to your Desktop.
• Double click on Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When the scan has finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

4. Please post the ComboFix log, along with a new HijackThis log.
