The harddrive on my notebook computer just died away. I don't do much with it, so I don't need more than about 30gb of storage. Anyone have one to let go of, or know where I could finsd a good deal (best deal I could find so far is about $50 for a generic 40gb drive on NewEgg).

Laptop components run a bit more expensive. Keep in mind that you'll need an ATA-6 laptop drive. I'd spend the few extra bucks on this WD Scorpio because it seems like the best value for what you're looking at.

I don't need 120gb, and fixing this laptop is not worth another $70 to me...

This is for my old Presario 2100US, not for my new laptop.

I know, the new laptop would use a SATA HDD, that's why I specified ATA-6 for this one.

The cheapest ATA-6 drive that I saw on Newegg was fifty bucks and 60 gig, this one is $20 more for twice the space.

I don't need twice the space, even for only $20 :P in fact, I don't even need 60gb... the old HD is only 30gb, and I never even got close to filling it, nor would I ever.

Tell you what, then. You buy the 120 gig, and I'll trade you my 60 gig and 20 bucks for it. :p

Well, I don't really even want to spend $50, that's why I started this thread, but if no one has any cheaper options, then I'll take you up on that...

Not a bad deal. The 5400 RPM speed is a good benefit over 4200 RPM too.

Hopefully the "factory recert" thing doesn't byte you, but for an older laptop, why spend extra for new drive, right?

Factory recertified beats "used" - because used is what he's got right now. ;)

    Oh, and bad pun! :p

Actually what I've got right now is more than used, it's "failure imminent, please replace hardware immediately" :( I've never had a computer ask me nicely to replace my hardware before...

Yeah, the nice thing about SMART-enabled hard drives; it's nice to have a little warning.
