Dual P4 Xeon 3.6Ghz Running SMP?

I have found a work around to allow my user account to run SMP on my Dual P4 Xeon system here at work. I am just wondering if SMP will gain me more points on these CPU's than 4 regular instances? I think it will...

Each core has HT turned on so inturn it should act like a quad core :)

If a dual core 805 can return a WU in time, so should your system. ;)

I would think my system could return a WU faster... as it has 2 separate cores with 2 HT setups... I am not at work ro see the progress But I hope all is going well.

    Wow...

This just shows how much more power the new C2D's have over the older Pent 4 Xeons. We all knew this but I am still amazed :)

2 Pent 4 3.6GHz Xeons with HT enabled running SMP = 45 minutes per frame :(
    1 C2D 2.20Ghz running SMP = 20 Minutes per frame

Sledge, you need to turn off hyperthreading for a dual core. I don't have link at hand, but there is information about that at Folding Community.

It seems to have been making the deadlines so far...

I just read about HT and most people seem to say it doesn't make much of a difference. I can't turn it off anyways as I need those HT setting in 3dsMax :)

Well, if you are making deadlines and aren't experiencing an unusual number of crashing work units, I guess HT doesn't matter in this case.

So far I ahven't had any units crash. Probably becuase this sytem only shutdown 1 day a week.. due to how often it is running renders.

From what I remember, there is overhead when using HT and it should be turned off. SMP assumes that you have 2 or more actual cores not a artificial cores... Try it out and see if the frame time changes...

Well it should see the 2 real cores still even if the HT cores are floating around. I can't diasbale the 2 HT cores :( due to my limited access to things at work.

Then I wouldn't worry about it then.
